The mounted resonator assembly is designed in such a way that it can be interfaced with a fluid delivery system to form a liquid tight chamber or flow cell around the mounted resonator without incurring additional physical impact upon the mounted resonator. The assembled flow cell can in turn be used to direct multiple fluid streams to flow in a laminar manner over the sensing surface of the mounted resonator and by varying the rates of flow for the different laminar flowing fluid streams the total hydraulic pressure exerted on the surface of the mounted resonator can be held constant.

A guide receives the fasteners from the die press and a drive unit engages the fasteners oriented by the guide and conveys the fastener to an elevated height relative to a tapping device. The guide redirects the fasteners by a first router. The fasteners are gravity fed into the first router and redirected to one of the tapping devices. Each tapping device has a tapping element for forming internal ribs in the aperture of the fastener. The tapping devices each actuates at a second speed that in aggregate is generally equal to the first speed of the die press.

The invention provides a process for producing a synthetic quartz glass, comprising: (a) depositing fine quartz glass particles synthesized by flame hydrolysis of a glass-forming material, on a substrate, to form a porous quartz glass base; (b) presintering the porous quartz glass base; (c) heat-treating the presintered porous quartz glass base by holding it under vacuum at a temperature in the range of from 1,100° C. to below the vitrification temperature for a certain time period; and (d) heating the thus heat-treated porous quartz glass base to a temperature not lower than the vitrification temperature to obtain a synthetic quartz glass. According to the process for synthetic quartz glass production of the invention, a synthetic quartz glass having a reduced OH group amount and a uniform OH group concentration can be obtained. From the synthetic quartz glass, an optical member having excellent optical properties can be obtained.
