    • PURPOSE:To prevent an H-beam from a causing a tongue after form-rolling by providing notches to the cutting pats of a beam blank for H-beam, cut into a prescribed dimension. CONSTITUTION:A flange 1A of one side of a beam blank 1 obtained by drawing a continuously cast mold, is linearly cut in the arrow (a) direction. Next, after opening a hole at the central part of the web 1B by cutting it in the arrow (b) direction, a flange 1C of the other side is linearly cut in the arrow (c) direction to form semicircular notches 13 at the cutting pats of web 1B. The web 1B is elongated in the longitudinal direction of beam blank 1 at the time of rolling an H-beam thereafter, and the notches 13 are vanished at the time of forming the H-beam, then respective both ends of web 1B and flanges 1A, 1C are trued up approximately. Thus a tongue produced conventionally is prevented by forming an H-beam in such a way, and a part to be discarded as a scrap is remarkably reduced.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce a remarkably fish tails generating at the front and rear ends of a metallic slab by subjecting the biting end of slab to a width rolling reduction larger in quantity than that other part is subjected to. CONSTITUTION:The biting end of a slab is subjected to heavy rolling rolling reduction by vertical rolls 2 having calibers placed at the inlet side, and the slab 1, excluding the biting end, is subjected to the rolling reduction allotted to the pass concerned. After horizontally rolling only a locally sheet-thickness increasing part of slab or both of said part and a nonincreasing part, the slab 1 is provided with a forcibly entering force between horizontal rolls 3 and vertical rolls 4 with calibers placed at the outlet side. In the sheet-thickness rolling by the rolls 4; the biting end of slab 1 is subjected to heavy rolling reduction, and the other part to the rolling reduction allotted to the pass concerned. The abnormally shaped parts generating at the front and rear ends of metallic slab 1 are remarkably improved by repeating reversibly this rolling thereafter.
