    • PURPOSE:To prevent the growth of fish tail and the formation of mechanical pipe during rolling and to improve rolling yield by forming a projected part of specific shape at the end part in the longitudinal of a hot rolling stock. CONSTITUTION:Slant dies 2 having each a chevron-shaped forming surface are pressed by a press, etc. against the end part 3 of said stock 1 from the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of stock 1. The dies 2 are provided with slant parts 5(I) and 6(II) of about 45 deg. and about 7 deg. slant angles respectively at the side of stock 1, to form by said pressing a descending slant-part 5(I) slanted at 35-60 deg. to the axial line of stock 1 at the end part of stock 1 and a rising slant-part 6(II) slanted at 4-15 deg., at the front side of part 5(I) by adjusting a hydraulic cylinder 8. Further the cross-sectional area of the front tip 7 is made smaller than that of the stock 1. In this way, the generation of burring in forming the projected part 4 is eliminated and the forming load of part 4 is also reduced, and further the rolling yield is improved.

    • PURPOSE:To remove fish tails fully automatically with ease by providing a material cutter between the finish stand of finishing mills and a coiler, and cutting the fish tail when it passes. CONSTITUTION:A material passes through a final finishing stand 1, and is coiled on a coiler mandrel by means of pinch rolls 4. The pass length of the material is counted with a pulse counter 5 connected to the pinch rolls 4 from the point of the time when the boundary with a fish tail and a normal part is detected with a shape counter 2, and the boundary is cut with a shear 3. The detector 2 and the shear 3 may be in any position as far as between the stand 1 and the coiler pinch rolls 4. thereby, the fish tail removal is accomplished automatically on the line.
