    • A polymer composition containing (a) a high impact polystyrene (HIPS) component with a block copolymer grafted to polystyrene, a rubbery conjugated diene content of one to seven weight percent based on HIPS weight, less than 10 weight-percent gel concentration, an average rubber particle size of between one and 0.01 micrometers, about 40 to about 90 volume percent of the rubber particles have diameters of less than about 0.4 microns and from about 10 to about 60 volume percent of the rubber particles have diameters between about 0.4 and about 2.5 microns, a majority of rubber particles with a core/shell morphology and a concentration that accounts for 10 to 70 weight-percent of the total polymer composition weight and one to five weight-percent rubbery diene based on total polymer composition weight; (b) from 10 to 70 weight percent of a general purpose polystyrene and from about 2 to about 80 weight-percent of a styrene block copolymer component, both based on total polymer composition weight. In a film, preferably oriented, wherein the polymer composition accounts for at least 95 weight-percent of the film, with the balance of the film or film composition weight being additives. Shrink labels are made from the film.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a large amount of MHAC extremely economically, while certainly and simultaneously performing actions of removing generated heat to avoid local temperature peaks; controlling pressure rise safely; nearly preventing accumulation of products at the product changeover; suppressing side reaction products; and obtaining products with uniform substitution patterns.
      SOLUTION: The apparatus for industrially producing methyl hydroxyalkyl celluloses (MHACs) by the reaction of cellulose with an alkali metal hydroxide and subsequent reaction with an alkyl halide and a hydroxy alkylating agent includes a reactor which has an L/D ratio of less than 2.5. The reaction is carried out batchwise in a reactor in which the unmixed regions are minimized and the batch reactor is preceded at the inlet by a continuously operated cellulose milling facility and is followed at the outlet by a continuously running plant for milling and drying the products. The product is transported by the action of gravity.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide dramatic effects on ST and UST limits of a blended compound composed of at least one elastomeric EAO polymer or EAO polymer blended compound with a high melting point polyolefin such as PP without effect on ST or UST limit of the EAO polymer, and further to provide an STI surpassing STI of a blended compound of (a) a rheology-modified EAO polymer or EAO polymer blended compound, or (b) the same high melting point polyolefin without modification of rheology and the EAO polymer or the EAO polymer blended compound. SOLUTION: The TPE composition with modified rheology is prepared by a peroxide modification of a fused blended compound of an EAO polymer or an EAO polymer blended compound, and a high melting point blended compound such as polypropylene or a propylene/α-olefin copolymer. The resultant composition has an elastomeric and non-elastomeric phase, and certain characteristics surpassing the physical properties of the similar rheology non-modified composition or the composition having same physical properties prior the modification of rheology. The blended composition can be used for production of various products such as automobile parts, non-automobile parts, roof films and shafts of boots by conventional procedures.
