    • PURPOSE:To eliminate a compensating device so that a hydraulic drive unit for a manual steering is aimed at being simplified, by making the diameter of a subpiston in an actuator equal to that of the piston rod of a main piston. CONSTITUTION:An actuator 2' has a such an arrangement that a cylinder 4 is divided into a main cylinder 4a and a subcylinder 4b by incorporating therein a partition wall 5, both cylinders 4a, 4b being communicated together, the diameter of a subpiston slidably fitted in the subcylinder 4b is made equal to that of the piston rod 8 of a main piston 7, and both pistons 6, 7 are associatingly connected together through a wire 9. When the piston 7 is moved to the left upon extension of the actuator, the piston 6 is moved to the right by being pulled through the wire 9, and therefore, replenishes operating fluid into the main cylinder 4a by the amount which is equal to the bulk of the piston rod 8. On the contrary, upon retraction of the actuator, operating fluid is accumulated into the cylinder 4b from the cylinder 4a.
