    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which is constituted so that the paper size of an original on an original platen may be detected by an original detecting sensor, and only the corresponding area to the size of the paper on a liquid crystal layer arranged on the original platen may be made in a light transmissible state and scanning light leaking outside the original area may be blocked. SOLUTION: A transparent glass plate 105 and the liquid crystal layer 106 are formed on the original platen 101 with a layer structure, and as for the liquid crystal layer 106, the driving area is divided into areas 1 to 13 capable of making the following regular paper sizes; vertical A3, vertical B4, vertical A4, vertical B5, horizontal A4, horizontal B5 and horizontal A5 in the light transmissible state. The paper size of the original 104 set on the original platen 101 is detected by the original size detecting sensor 103, then, among the areas 1 to 13 on the liquid crystal layer 106, the corresponding area to the detected paper size is made in the light transmissible state, and the areas 1 to 13 beyond the extent of the corresponding area are made in non light-transmissible state, thereafter, the image of the original 104 is read by the scanner 102.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser controller which can get stable optical output without recourse to the temperature properties of optical output and a monitor current, without using a detection element such as a temperature detector. SOLUTION: This semiconductor laser controller can reduce the ripple of a monitor current or optical output caused by the temperature properties of a semiconductor laser diode LD, by resetting the signal amplification factor A of a signal amplifier 21 which amplifies the light emission level monitor signal Vma monitoring the light emission level of a semiconductor laser LD, according to the values of the reference temperature signal VLD0 corresponding to a light emission level control signal and the operation voltage VLD corresponding to the drive current of the semiconductor LD, in the control section of a light-electric negative feedback loop 2 which controls the forward current at light emission of the semiconductor laser LD. This can perform the stable control of optical output without recourse to the temperature change by electric circuit constitution, without using other detectors such as a temperature detector, etc.

SOLUTION: An image forming device 200 has an image producing unit 205 mounted and inserted detachably such that a connector 231 of the image producing unit 205 is connected automatically with a connector 241 of the image forming device 200 according to the insertion of the image producing unit 205. The image producing unit 205 comprises a photosensitive drum 213, a charge roller 214, a polygon mirror 217, a motor roller 217, a scanning lens 215, and a printed board 222, supported between easily separatable main body upper case 210 and main body lower case 211, with a semiconductor laser and a lens holder attached on the printed board 222. A toner case 212 storing a toner 224 is mounted on the lower surface of the main body lower case 211 as well as a developing roller 223 is mounted in the state supported between the toner case 212 and the main body lower case 211 so as to improve the recycling property.
