摘要： A watermarked image comprises a plurality of samples with added watermark codeword coefficient values. The image is low pass filtered to generate, for each sample, a local mean which is subtracted from the image to generate a residual signal, from which a local standard deviation for each sample is determined. For each sample, a watermark strength value provides an estimate of the magnitude of embedding, a first and second gaussian likelihood function describe the likelihoods of the embedded watermark codeword coefficient being positive and negative, the first and second gaussian likelihood function having the sum and difference of the local mean and the watermark strength value as means, respectively, and the local standard deviation as a standard deviation. The watermark can be detected in the image based on the above first and second likelihoods. This provides an estimate of the positioning of the watermark within the image.

SOLUTION: Block error diffusion treatment is performed to main image information, and one of two kinds of special pixels (achromatic pixel) is selected according to the result. One of two kinds of key information is selected according to 0/1 of the sub-information, color difference modulation treatment is performed to the selected key information, and superimposition processing is performed using the result and the selected particular pixels, thus composite image information being created, in which sub-information is embedded into the main image information in an invisible state. When the sub-information is recovered from the composite image information afterwards, it is recovered by extracting the frequency distribution of the key information from the composite image information.
