    • A method for starting up a voltage-mode switching power supply into a biased load includes computing a ratio of the load voltage at the biased load to an input voltage of the switching power supply, generating a first signal indicative of the duty cycle of the voltage-mode switching power supply, comparing the first signal indicative of the duty cycle to the ratio, and turning on an output stage of the voltage-mode switching power supply only when the first signal indicative of the duty cycle is equal to the ratio. In this manner, the voltage-mode switching power supply can be started up to supply power to a biased load without dragging down the load voltage of the biased load.

    • A digitally-controlled, DC/DC converter includes at least one switched-mode power stage for the purpose of converting an input voltage (Vin) into an output voltage (Vout); the power stage including at least one controllable switching device, which is turned ON and OFF by a control device with temporal resolution Δt. The converter further includes a duty cycle control mechanism for controlling the duty cycle of the controllable switching device, the duty cycle control mechanism including a mechanism for estimating the output voltage error; a mechanism for estimating the target duty cycle; a duty cycle quantization mechanism for determining, for a target duty cycle estimate, a first set of quantized ON time/OFF time pairs suitable for controlling the switching device; and a selector mechanism for determining the turn ON and turn OFF times of said controllable switching device by choosing, cycle by cycle, an ON time/OFF time pair from a second set of quantized ON time/OFF time pairs, derived from said first set, choosing in such a manner that the amplitude of the output voltage error is continually minimized. To compensate for the load-dependent effects of parasitics, the second set of quantized ON time/OFF time pairs is adjusted continuously, to insure optimum performance at all load levels.

    • A voltage regulator circuit for use with an integrated circuit (IC) chip and an external voltage source includes a first transistor and a second transistor. The first transistor has the emitter thereof electrically connected to the external voltage source and the collector thereof electrically connected to the IC chip via a power input pin. The second transistor has the collector thereof electrically connected to ground, the base thereof electrically connected to the IC chip via a voltage-regulation control pin, and the emitter electrically connected to the base of the first transistor. The voltage regulator circuit is utilized for regulating a source voltage received from the external voltage source via the first transistor in response to a current signal flowing through the voltage-regulation control pin to have the regulated voltage inputted into the integrated circuit chip via the power input pin.

    • A method and circuit control the value of generated voltage derived from a supply voltage as the value of the supply voltage varies, such as during burn-in of an integrated circuit. A voltage generation circuit includes a generator circuit that receives a supply voltage and has a reference node and develops an output voltage from the supply voltage, the output voltage having a value that is a function of a reference voltage applied on the reference node. A coupling circuit receives the supply voltage and operates in response to a voltage control signal to vary an electronic coupling of the supply voltage to the reference node to thereby adjust the value of the reference voltage. A voltage sensing circuit develops the voltage control signal that is applied to the coupling circuit in response to the reference voltage.
