摘要： A locomotive has DC or AC traction motors, powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, and optionally other sources such as regenerative braking. The traction motors of the locomotive may be connected to a set of independent DC choppers or AC inverters, linked via a common DC bus, configured to regulate power from the one or more power sources. A manager module, among other functions, may receive inputs and signals to coordinate delivery of electricity from the sources to the motor. A method for retrofitting a legacy locomotive may include removing a generator and a control apparatus configured for diesel fuel, and installing a kit of apparatus configured to be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. A railway system for use by locomotives powered by hydrogen has one or more hydrogen-generation stations deployed near a track of the railway system.

摘要： The invention provides computing devices and systems for railroad control and automation in railyards and on rail lines. A computing device has a housing having a front, a back, a top, a bottom, an exposed side, and an unexposed side, as well as an interior. The interior of the housing is adapted to support a communications bus, a processor board with a digital signal processor having memory thereon coupled to the communications bus. The memory stores a unique device identification. Additionally in the interior is an input/output board coupled to the communications bus, and a user-interface board coupled to the communications bus. The front has a user-viewable screen adapted to display a plurality of alphanumeric characters, and a user-interactive input device adapted to allow a user to scroll through alphanumeric data displayed on the screen. The top has a bank of output connectors comprising a first output connector adapted to send a control signal to a first railroad device, a first microphone, and a bank of power input connectors. The bottom has a bank of input connectors comprising a first input connector adapted to accept a signal from the first railroad device, and a wire-line data communications receptacle, while the back is adapted to couple to a DIN-Rail.

摘要： A railroad wheel impact load detection test panel includes a secondary instrumentation rail proximate a field side of a primary or running rail of a section of railroad track, and elevated a prescribed distance so that the wheels of a rail car traverse the instrumentation rail within the test panel. The instrumentation rail includes an optical strain gauge to sense the wheel impact load. The sensed impact data is correlated with wheel damage signatures to identify wheels to be restored or replaced before failure occurs.
