    • A control circuit for a lawn tractor having an engine and a power take off driven implement. The control circuit includes an inhibit circuit component for preventing operation of a power take off driven implement with the tractor in reverse. Two versions of the inhibit circuit are disclosed, one grounds an engine magneto and a second disables an electric clutch for coupling the power take off to the driven element. The circuit includes first and second override switches and an override circuit component that allows operation of a power take off driven implement while the lawn tractor is in reverse after the first and second override switches are activated in a proper order by a tractor operator.

    • An hour meter having a display that provides a visual indication of a total time an engine has operated and a visual indication of engine operation time remaining in a predetermined service time interval. A plurality of segments on the display are selectively displayed in a first optical state or a second optical state. A display drive displays the segments in the first optical state at a beginning of a predetermined service interval. The drive changes the optical state of a first segment from the first optical state to the second optical state when a given portion of the predetermined service time interval has elapsed. The drive incrementally changes the state of a remainder of the plurality of segments from the first optical state to said second optical state as additional portions of the predetermined service time interval elapse to graphically display the amount of engine operation time remaining in the predetermined service time interval.

    • A switch comprises a plunger, a retainer, a pair of terminals and an electrically-conducting wiper contact having a curved or bent middle portion defining two oppositely directed legs on either side of the middle portion. The retainer cooperates with the plunger to carry the wiper contact as the plunger moves between a normal and an actuated position. The terminals have facing contact surfaces for biased engagement with the portions of the legs exposed by the plunger and retainer to form an electrical path between the terminals when the plunger is in the actuated position. The plunger and the retainer are coupled together by arms which project from either the plunger or the retainer. The wiper contact is secured between the plunger and retainer without the need for forming a central loop in the wiper contact for engagement by the plunger.

    • A safety system for limiting the speed of a fuel powered engine, particularly an internal combustion engine of a vehicle or machine, preferably by controlling the engine ignition. The system is especially useful for vehicles such as snowmobiles, motorcycles, power boats, and the like. An alternating or pulsed electrical output directly proportional to engine rpm is detected and the rpm is limited to one of two or more different levels, depending upon the condition of a programming switch or switches, in this embodiment a throttle switch. An upper level limits engine speed to a safe rpm in the event of load removal, such as when a drive belt breaks or a gear change is missed. Engine speed is limited to a lower level if the throttle switch indicates idle rpm is desired and if the engine does not begin to decelerate from a higher rpm within a predetermined time, regardless of the actual throttle condition. In drives utilizing automatic drive clutches, the lower level of rpm is below the engine speed necessary to engage the clutch.

    • An hourmeter system and method for monitoring engine operation in power equipment. A programmable controller monitors and updates an indication of the running times of an engine. An interface circuit is coupled to the programmable controller and also coupled to a power source for starting the engine. The interface circuit includes a detector circuit for detecting presence of a periodic noise signal whose presence is indicative of operation of the engine. The programmable controller is programmed to accumulate times of engine operation in a memory and communicate those times of engine operation for display.
