    • A contact blade for a circuit breaker configured such that the current path in the blade produces a magnetic field which affects an arc present at the contact of the blade.     • An electric high-voltage circuit breaker is provided with two coaxially arranged contact members, which are movable relative to each other, with one rated-current contact (5, 7) and one burning contact (5, 7) each. This is achieved by the fact that the rated-current contact of the movable contact member is formed by contact fingers which are elastically supported on the support part (18) and that the support part is constructed to be electrically conductive and has a contact surface which acts in conjunction with the contact surfaces of the contact fingers after separation of the rated-current contacts. Such a breaker is preferably used as a generator switch.

    • A switching apparatus for disconnecting and connecting power between a power source and a load employs a vacuum switch, a knife blade or air switch coupled electrically in series with the vacuum switch and a positive interlock mechanism. In the disconnect mode, at first the bias on a springloaded movable contact of the vacuum switch is relieved; then the vacuum lock that maintains the movable contact engaged with the fixed contact in the vacuum switch is overcome to cause complete separation of the contacts, thereby breaking the connection to the power source; and finally the knife blade is moved to open the air switch and to a position providing a visual indication that the power to the load has been interrupted. A continuous force is applied to the interlock mechanism, but the disconnect process occurs sequentially in three steps. During the connect mode, the three step process is reversed.

    • A disconnect switch for high-voltage installations is disclosed. The switch includes a pair of hollow contacts, one of which is movable, disposed in a grounded metallic housing filled with compressed gas. A spring-loaded contact-breaking pin is provided in one of the hollow contacts. The pin is provided at its free end with a recess which is engaged in the "on" position of the switch by a ratchet device pivotally disposed in the other contact. During movement of the movable contact toward the "off" position of the switch, the contact-breaking pin remains in contact with the ratchet device. The mechanically controlled ratchet device releases the contact-breaking pin at a given position of the movable contact. The contact-breaking pin is then returned by its spring into its hollow contact with a velocity greater than that of the movable contact. Any arc which may be generated between the ratchet device and the contact-breaking pin is thereby quickly quenched even though the disconnect switch is driven at a slow speed.

    • A puffer-type gas-blast circuit-breaker comprises an interrupting unit mounted in a housing filled with an insulating gas of high dielectric strength such as sulfur hexafluoride. An operating mechanism comprises a control rod coupled to the movable contacts so as to open the main contacts before the separation of the arcing contacts. A pair of input and output terminals extend out of the housing, and a shunt conductor is arranged in the arcing circuit between operating rod and the lower terminal. The longitudinally extending main and arcing circuits are connected in parallel to the terminals and form two independent current paths which are cross-wise spaced inside the housing. A partition wall divides the inner space of the housing into two superposed compartments, one of them including the main contacts, and the other the arcing zone.
