    • An electronic watch movement including a base plate having a pair of opposite major surfaces. A calendar ring is disposed confronting a first of the major surfaces, and a circuit board is disposed confronting the second major surface. The calendar ring has a narrow central annular portion, a wide peripheral skirt portion circumscribing the narrow central annular portion and a circular step portion extending between the narrow central annular portion and the wide peripheral skirt portion. The skirt portion of the calendar ring is spaced further from the base plate then the central annular portion of the calendar ring. The base plate has openings therethrough opposite the skirt portion of the calendar ring, and electronic watch components are mounted on the major surface of the circuit board and extend through the openings through the base plate beyond the narrow central annular portion of the calendar ring toward the wide peripheral skirt portion of the calendar ring. The electronic watch components are oriented to minimize the thickness of the electronic watch movement.

    • Method and apparatus for electrostatically generating power by converting random mechanical motion into electrical energy. The apparatus includes two variable capacitors that have their capacitances varied in an alternating manner by the physical displacement of a common conductor that forms one plate in each of the capacitors. The variable capacitors are formed in a container which holds a fluid for increasing the output power of the apparatus. The fluid in combination with movable conductor also generates sufficient charge to bias the variable capacitors.

    • An electronic wristwatch with an audible alarm device has an elongated casing in which there are two cavities separated from one another. An electronic time keeping unit is sealed in one of the cavities while an audio alarm device is housed in the other cavity. Preferably, the casing has a central portion from which opposite wing portions extend. The cavity for the time keeping unit is in the central portion while the cavity for the alarm device is in one of the wing portions. The cavity for the alarm device opens at the back of the casing and the alarm device is made up as a self-contained unit which fits into the cavity. A plurality of small holes extend from the cavity for the alarm device to the front of the casing for better transmission of sound.

    • An alarm device for connection between an electric appliance and a power source to provide an audible and visual signal of a power failure. The device includes a first circuit in series with the appliance and power source containing an electro-magnet holding a spirally wound spring hammer in spaced relation to a gong. Upon occurrence of a power failure, the electromagnet is deactivated, releasing the hammer which strikes the gong. Simultaneously, a second circuit in parallel to the first having a switch spring-biased to an open position in the path of movement of the hammer and connected to a light is closed by the hammer. Upon restoration of power, the light is activated to indicate the occurrence of the power failure. A post connected to the free end of the hammer is used to reset the device by returning the hammer to the influence of the electromagnet, also enabling the spring-biased switch to reopen, upon the restoration of power.
