    • An adjustable temperature actuated switching apparatus using a fixed transition type negative temperature coefficient device is disclosed. Such device exhibits regenerative switching at a predetermined temperature and power level and a monotonic shift in the power level required to induce regenerative switching, this shift being a function of ambient temperature at the device. The apparatus comprises means for passing a controlled current through the device to thermally bias the same so as to make it switch at a desired ambient temperature at the device below its transition temperature, and means for detecting regenerative switching of such device as an indication that the desired temperature at the device has been reached. The source of controlled current may be a D.C. or an A.C. source.

    • Pulse signals having desired time intervals are generated, in part, by employing a resistor-capacitor series circuit. The potential developed across the capacitor drives a transistor emitter-follower amplifier. Variations in the signal developed at the emitter-follower output and, hence, in the pulse signals derived from that output are caused by variations in the transistor base-to-emitter potential because of changes in temperature. These variations are minimized by employing a diode to ''''clamp'''' the potential applied to the RC series circuit so that it varies substantially as the base-to-emitter potential.

    • In a card reader compatible with electronic data processing equipment, electronic sensing circuits are disclosed which utilize photo-silicon controlled rectifiers in cooperation with logic circuitry. A photo-SCR rear sensor having binary memory is provided comprising a photo-SCR in series with one branch of a logic gate, with another branch connected to a reset pulse generator. An automatic reset sensor comprises a photo-SCR with its cathode in series with the base of a transistor, the anode of the photo-SCR being in series with a first branch of a logic gate and the collector of the transistor being in series with a second gate.
