    • An image sensing apparatus reliably indicates an image sensing area regardless of the size of an object. In the apparatus, illumination units 14 irradiate spot lights 36 on a base 7 to indicate an image sensing area 37 for sensing an original 6 by a camera head 9. The image sensing area indicated by the spot lights 36, irradiated from laser devices 33 of the illumination units 14, attached to the camera head 9, is corresponding to the length/width ratio of the image screen of a monitor 3. A luminance signal level, stored in a memory of a system controller 15, on image sensing the base, is compared with the level of a luminance signal from an image sensing device 25, and when the signal levels do not coincide, it is determined that an original exists on the base. Further, the system controller 15 independently changes first to fourth spot lights 110 to 113 irradiated from the first to fourth illumination units.

    • A dithered image reconstruction system and method that compensates for inter-detector errors in a manner that does not adversely affect detection of small-amplitude images in the presence of a very bright large-amplitude background. An overlapping dither pattern is employed in a detector array (103), and outputs generated by individual detectors (302) are adjusted in an iterative fashion to hold all outputs for a particular detector substantially constant, while allowing each set of outputs for each image section to converge on a solution. The system and method do not substantially distort the received signal, nor do they fail when the image characteristics have little spatial variation, such as when a large target area is being detected.

    • An image input equipment including a stage having a diffusion board provided on an upper surface thereof on which an object is to be placed, an image input head for inputting an image of the object and photoelectrically converting the image into an electric signal, a supporting pillar for supporting the image input head and positioning the image input head over the stage, exterior illumination lamps for illuminating the object placed on the stage from above the stage, interior illumination lamps for illuminating the object placed on the diffusion board from inside the diffusion board. The image input equipment is further provided with lighting circuits and a changeover device. The lighting circuits are used to activate both the exterior illumination lamps and the interior illumination lamps. The changeover device connects the lighting circuits to only either the exterior illumination lamps or the interior illumination lamps selectively.

    • The invention is to realize an image scanning apparatus capable of achieving both high precision and high-speed scanning properties while maintaining and pursuing size and cost reductions of the apparatus. For this purpose, an image scanning apparatus having an imaging optical system for forming at least part of imaging light of an object into an image, an image sensor for performing photoelectric conversion of an optical image formed by the imaging optical system, and a moving unit for moving the optical image and the image sensor relative to each other, wherein the image sensor includes a plurality of photoelectric conversion units arranged adjacent to each other, a charge transfer unit for transferring charges generated by the plurality of photoelectric conversion units, and a charge adding unit for adding the charges transferred by the charge transfer unit, is disclosed. The image scanning apparatus includes a control unit for performing control such that the charge transfer unit transfers the charges substantially in synchronism with optical image movement by the moving unit, and the charge adding unit adds the charges from different photoelectric conversion units in accordance with a transfer operation of the charge transfer unit.
