Both the adjustment of the braking torque to the desired value for the operation of the brake (1) and the adjustment of the braking torque when calibrating the brake (1) are carried out by actuation of this one actuator (18). The structure and handling of the magnetic hysteresis brake (1) can be simplified thereby. The magnetic hysteresis brake (1) can be used to maintain a uniform thread tension on textile machines.

As applied to monitoring wear of an aircraft brake, a linear brake wear indicator attached to the brake moves a discrete distance when the brake is actuated, and a linear position encoder measures the distance traveled by the linear brake wear indicator as an indication of brake usage. A wheel speed monitor may also be provided for measuring the aircraft wheel speed, for distinguishing between static brake applications and moving brake applications, based upon the wheel speed signal.

An embodiment including a shear ring is described to facilitate pressure testing above. A further embodiment includes a load adjuster to assist in closing the valve. The valve can be a high lift injection valve.

An electrical motor carried by the pliers and connected to the chuck is capable of rotating the chuck. An electrical switch is carried by the pliers and is located so as to be pressed by a user's thumb while holding the pliers. When the switch is activated, the electrical motor rotates the chuck to twist the wire ends together.
