    • A method provides for the dynamic traffic prioritization in a communication network. The method electronically monitors traffic in a communication network and determines when traffic exceeds configured thresholds on the links of the communication network. Thus, the method determines a link which is potentially about to be congested in the communication network. The method categorizes the traffic on this link by an end system attached to one end of the potentially congested link into a plurality of priority categories using application layer parameters. Using a re-direct capability of the end system, the method re-directs at least one of the pluralities of priority categories of traffic to an alternate Internet Protocol address. The method uses preconfigured Quality of Service mechanisms on the provider edge router attached to the other end of the potentially congested link to guarantee a predetermined amount of bandwidth capacity of the link to traffic destined to the alternate Internet Protocol address.

    • Various embodiments of a display device described herein include an optical propagation region, at least one optical loss structure, an optical isolation layer, and a plurality of display elements. The propagation region includes a light guide in which light is guided via total internal reflection and turning features configured to redirect the light out of the propagation region. The loss structure would disrupt the total internal reflection of at least some of the light guided within the propagation region if disposed directly adjacent thereto. The optical isolation layer includes a non-gaseous material between the propagation region and the loss structure, and is configured to increase an amount of light that is totally internal reflected in the propagation region. The plurality of display elements are positioned to receive the light redirected out of the propagation region. The loss structure is positioned between the plurality of display elements and the propagation region.

    • A lensed planar reflective surface for automotive auto dimming mirror applications, including a lens and a planar variable attenuating reflective element in spaced relation so as to reflect light transmitted through the lens back through the lens; wherein the planar variable attenuating reflective element comprises: front and rear planar elements; a layer of transparent conductive material disposed on the rear surface of the front planar element; a reflective material disposed on one side of the rear planar element and a perimeter sealing member bonding together the front and rear planar elements in a spaced-apart relationship to define a planar chamber therebetween of uniform thickness, where the planar chamber contains at least one electrochromic material, and where the reflective material is effective to reflect light transmitted through the front planar element and the planar chamber back through the planar chamber and the front planar element.
