    • An electronic musical instrument that includes an input means for inputting first performance data from a first performer side and a second performance data from a second performer side, wherein the input includes at least pitch information, query performance data and response performance data. A mode switch is for switching between a first mode and a second mode. The first mode uses the first performance data as the query performance data, and the second performance data as the response performance data. The second mode uses the second performance data as the query performance data, and the first performance data as the response performance data. A condition determination at least determines whether the response performance data matches the query performance data. A controller automatically operates the mode switch based on the condition determination. The musical instrument enhances learning musical tone discrimination via a game like interaction.

    • An electronic instrument has a plurality of keys and allows a user to select one mode of a normal mode and a divided mode. Upon selecting of the normal mode, musical tones having a first set of characteristics are assigned to a single keyboard zone spanning the plurality of keys. Upon selecting of the divided mode, the single keyboard zone is divided into a plurality of keyboard zones, and musical tones having a second set of characteristics different from the first set of characteristics are assigned to each of the plurality of keyboard zones. A musical tone is generated upon operation of one key of the plurality of keys. The musical tone is generated in conformance with the selected mode. The musical tone may be output to a first output and/or a second output.

    • An electronic percussion instrument includes a vibration detection apparatus having a simplified frame structure that increases the uniformity of its rim shot strike sensitivity distribution. The frame is comprised of a flange, a center section and a linking section that surrounds the center section and extends from the center section to the flange. The flange engages the end of the drum body and the frame is disposed within the drum body. A rim shot sensor is mounted to the center section of the frame and detects rim shot vibrations that are transmitted through the frame. Because the linking section of the frame surrounds the center section, uniformity of rim shot strike sensitivity is improved. A head sensor is also mounted to the frame on a support plate that is coupled to the frame through a vibration isolating damper. A cushioning material is placed between the head sensor and a head of the percussion instrument for transmitting vibrations from the head to the head sensor. The flange of the frame and a drum head are held between an end of the drum body and a rim that is bolted to the drum body.
