    • The disclosure relates to a method and an apparatus for separating overlapping objects (3) advanced on a conveyer. The conveyer is divided into two individually driven paths, a first (1) and a second (2). The paths (1, 2) each have a bending roller (5, 6) lying adjacent one another and being interconnected and moveable in the horizontal plane. When separation is to take place, the conveyer paths (1, 2) and the bending rollers (5, 6) are advanced forwards at the same speed. Thereafter, the bending rollers (5, 6) and the second conveyer belt (2) are accelerated momentarily whereafter the bending rollers (5, 6) return to the original speed. • In a signature-stacking apparatus, a conveyor chain holding a row of signatures travels along a conveyance path. A first signature release section and a second signature release section are provided in the conveyance path. During travel from the first signature release section to the second signature release section, the conveyor chain is twisted by 180 degrees about the direction of travel and makes a 180-degree turn about an axis parallel to a connection pin of the conveyor chain. Signatures released from the first and second signature release sections are conveyed to first and second signature delivery sections disposed on opposite sides of a stacking section by first and second conveyor mechanisms while their speed of conveyance is being adjusted. A predetermined number of signatures are delivered, while being led by their creases, into the stacking section from the first and second signature delivery sections alternately.

    • For allowing a reduction in the processing capacity to be accommodated without a delay in a system, in which articles are supplied and transferred to an article processing device (8) from an article delivering device (4) in a regularly clock-cycled supply stream, articles are not transferred to the article processing device when there is no processing capacity. Instead, they are conveyed onwards along a return track (9) and are re-introduced into the supply stream at a return point (6) upstream of the transfer point (7). For each re-introduction of a returned article into the supply stream, a gap is produced in the supply stream in a gap formation point (5) upstream of the return point (6). For synchronizing returned articles and gaps, the length (in clock cycles) of the return track (9) is matched to the length (in clock cycles) of the supply track (3) from the gap formation point (5) to the return point (6) and to a time difference (in clock cycles) between a non-transfer and formation of a corresponding gap. The system is suitable for supplying main products from a web-fed printing press to a stacking/packaging device where normal packages and peak packages are produced. The main products are completed prior to be stacked and packed. In this application it is possible to operate the article supply regularly clock-cycled although no separate processing device for producing the peak packages is provided and although no completed products are to be removed from the system.

    • A system and method for creating a discontinuity in a stack of interfolded sheets in which folding rolls cooperate to interfold staggered sheets supplied in two streams of sheets, each of which is severed from a web of material. When a desired sheet count is attained, a sheet in one of the streams of sheets is folded onto itself so as to create a discontinuity in one of the streams of sheets. The folded sheet is formed by maintaining a leading portion of the sheet in engagement with a separating one roll while maintaining a trailing portion of the sheet in engagement with another roll, with the two rolls being positioned to form a nip therebetween and rotating in opposite directions. Once the sheet has attained a predetermined position on the two rolls, engagement of the leading portion of the sheet with the separating roll is released while engagement of the sheet with the other roll is maintained to define a crease in the sheet, with the leading portion of the sheet being folded back onto the trailing portion of the sheet. The folded sheet forms a gap in the sheet supplied in one of the streams of sheets which, when the sheets are supplied to the interfolding rolls, functions to create a discontinuity in the interfolded stack to facilitate separation of a portion of the stack from the remainder of the stack.
