    • An apparatus for shift control of a transmission includes a transmission control unit (TCU) and an actuator for actuating an input by a shift signal from the TCU. A movable control shaft moving by way of the actuator and a plurality of shift forks are able to move a shift position for realizing odd-numbered shift-speeds, even-numbered shift-speeds, or a neutral position. A plurality of shift lugs are secured to and move integrally with a plurality of shift forks. A control finger unit is secured to the control shaft and moves at least one of the plurality of shift lugs corresponding to movement from the control shaft. The control finger unit moves the shift lugs such that shift lugs for realizing an odd-numbered shift-speed are not located together at a shift position and that shift lugs for realizing an even-numbered shift-speed are not located together at a shift position.

As a result, while the shift arm 53 is rotating in correspondence to the shift operation, the distance between the contacting part and the rotational axis of the shift arm 53 varies to change the leverage effective between the change-lever L and the contacting part.

    • Herein disclosed is an improved direction changing mechanism used in a shift control mechanism of a transverse manual transmission. The direction changing mechanism comprises a drive member movable together with the control rod; and at least one driven member movable together with the shift fork. The driven member is formed with a rectangular recess into which a head portion of the drive member is insertable under a certain condition so that upon selecting operation, the head portion of the drive member is put in the recess of the driven member and upon shifting operation, the head portion of the drive member abuts against one of the side walls of the recess thereby to move the driven member in a certain direction thereby completing a gear coupling. The head portion of the drive member is so sized and constructed that when the drive member assumes its rest or neutral position, the head portion is spacedly put in the recess without contacting the driven member, while, when the drive member assumes its operative position to complete the gear coupling, the head portion contact both the side walls of the recess.
