    • A robotic tool for mounting an edge connector on a mother board, and mounting a daughter board to the edge connector. The mother and daughter boards are of the printed circuit board type, with the edge connector including a plurality of terminals mounted in a socket for receiving an edge of the daughter board at a first angle, and for electrically mating with the edge of the daughter board when the daughter board is rotated to a second angle. The tool includes a programmable robotic arm selectively moveable to a predetermined position on the mother board, and having a free end with a pair of end portions moveable toward and away from each other. A pair of jaws are mounted to the end portions, for movement therewith. The jaws have first outwardly extending connector engaging portions and second inwardly opening daughter board-receiving recesses. The same jaws are used to mount the edge connector to the mother board, and to insert and rotate the daughter board for mating and locking with the edge connector.

    • A connector clip 12 is shown having a "U" shaped body member 30 including a base 34 and two parallel, extending legs 32. The ends of each of the legs 32 define camming surfaces 42 and a socket retaining notch 44. The clip includes a pair of first spacing feet 47 positioned medially upon each leg 32 and a pair of second spacing feet 36 located at the ends of a base member 34. The feet 36, 47 serve to limit relative movement between the clip 12 and a plug 14 which holds the clip 12 to a circuit board 22. A pair of spaced fingers 48 together with the circuit board 22 and the facing surfaces of the legs 32 define an access opening which serves to align the socket 24 with a plug 14. The second embodiment of FIGS. 5 and 6 includes a pair of arms 50 which engage the circuit board 22 surface opposite the surface upon which the plug 14 is mounted. The arms 50 prevent relative movement between the clip 12 and the circuit board 22.

    • An electrical keying arrangement ensures that correctly associated electrical components, such as a circuit board and connector, are interconnected by completing a conducting path which includes two pairs of keying terminals positioned on the components. One pair of uniquely spaced and positioned keying terminals on the edge of the circuit board are strapped together to complete the conducting path through the other pair of keying terminals when the board is inserted in the connector. The path is completed only when the connector keying terminals are similarly, uniquely spaced and positioned. When completed, the path may be utilized to energize a relay which controls the application of power to the circuit board.

    • Disclosed is a method for manufacturing a printed circuit card edge connector having a pull through bellows contact and a lay-over insulator. Manufacturing steps include inserting contacts interconnected by a common support strip into the top openings of sleeves and positioning the projections of those contacts within alignment troughs such that the contact tails extend out of the bottom of the openings in alignment. The common support strip is removed and the tails of the contacts are inserted through apertures arranged in linear arrays through the substrate. Force is applied to the tails rigidly press-fit mounting the contacts to the substrate. Further disclosed are the forming of first and second extending ears as integral portions of the upper contactor and intermediate mounting regions of the contact, respectively, and the forming of alignment tracks configured to receive the first and second ears. Also disclosed are methods of manufacture including the use of inner and outer alignment tracks wherein the first ears are inserted into the outer alignment track and, where the outer alignment track extends through the sleeve from the top to the bottom of the insulative block, applying force to the tails of the contacts and passing the first ears along the outer alignment track. Further disclosure includes receiving the ears in interference engagement within the alignment track and sliding sub-projections in interference engagement with the troughs, retaining the contacts within the insulative block in alignment and slideably positioning the upper contactor region relative to the sleeves and slideably receiving the ears of said contacts in said troughs.
