    • A DC-DC converter includes a main reactor interposed in a main energization path extending from a DC voltage input terminal to a DC voltage output terminal, a first main switching element interposed into the main energization path so as to be on-off controlled so that current flowing across the main reactor is intermitted, a second main switching element forming a discharge loop discharging electrical energy stored in the main reactor to the DC voltage output terminal side, an auxiliary reactor interposed between the first main switching element and the main reactor in the main energization path, an auxiliary switching element discharging electrical energy via the main reactor to the DC voltage output terminal side, the electrical energy being stored in the auxiliary and main reactors, and diodes connected in reverse parallel with the first and second main switching elements and the auxiliary switching elements respectively.

    • There are provided: sets of pairs of main circuit switching elements (4u), (4x) that supply power to a load, connected in series with a DC power source; free-wheel diodes (5u), (5x) connected in anti-parallel with these main circuit switching elements; and a reverse voltage application circuit (8) that applies reverse voltage smaller than the DC voltage source to the free-wheel diodes when these free-wheel diodes cut off. The reverse voltage application circuit includes a current suppression circuit (10) that suppresses the main circuit current flowing in the low-voltage DC voltage power source on reverse recovery of the free-wheel diodes.

    • A rectifier MESFET includes an N-channel MESFET having its gate connected to its source, and at the same current density having a voltage drop lower than the gate Schottky diode. A Schottky diode may be connected in parallel with the N-channel device to provide over current protection. A Zener may also be connected in parallel to provide reverse voltage protection. A second N-channel device may be connected in parallel. The addition of the second N-channel provides two different operational mode: synchronous rectification where the majority of current flows through the low resistance first N-channel device and asynchronous rectification where the majority of current flows through the somewhat higher resistance first N-channel device.
