摘要： A cartridge (24) is configured for slitting a mill roll (12) in a slitting machine. The cartridge (24) includes a first shaft (28) mounted in bearings in a pair of endplates (26), with one end of the shaft having a driven yoke for rotation thereof. The first shaft (28) includes a row of first circular blades (36) spaced longitudinally by corresponding first spacers. A second shaft (42) is pivotally mounted in the endplates, and is spaced parallel with the first shaft (28). A dovetail bar (44) is fixedly joined to the second shaft parallel therewith. And, a row of blade holders are mounted along the dovetail bar, with each holder including a second circular blade aligned with a corresponding one of the first blades for cutting in shear a web unwound from the mill roll. The cartridge may be quickly replaced in the slitting machine for each production run thereof for alignment with cores on a corresponding arbor.

摘要： A machine (10) for slitting a metal sheet (12) has a number of knife holder assemblies (56) each containing a rotary knife (58). The knife holder assemblies (56) are mounted for movement along upper and lower rotating shafts (44, 46) which rotate the knives (58) during a slitting operation. The position of the knife holder assemblies (56) is programmably controlled for efficient and accurate positioning and adjustment of the knives (58) along the rotating shafts (44, 46) for a variety of slitting configurations. Additionally, each of the upper and lower drive shafts (44, 46) contains a pair of drive shaft sections (74) that are normally connected together during operation and can be disconnected for servicing of the knife holder assemblies (56) on the shafts (44, 46). The slitting machine (10) includes upper and lower frames (26, 28) that are movable relative to each other by adjustment of a pair of jack screws (86) to slit metal sheets (12) of differing thicknesses without labor intensive adjustment or reconfiguration of the machine (10).

A third tool-contacting member (50) is preferably provided for exerting a third pushing force to push the tool in the opposite direction from the first tool-contacting member (48), likewise while the second tool-contacting member (52) is simultaneously pushing against the tool. The second tool-contacting member preferably exerts its pushing force prior to the commencement of the first or third pushing force. The three tool-contacting members are preferably interconnected so as to move in unison, the second tool-contacting member being movable relative to the tool parallel to the tool-positioning axis while simultaneously exerting its second pushing force against the tool.
