    • In an open-end spinning device (1) of a rotor spinning machine (2) having a spinning rotor (3) with a rotor cup (4), in which fiber material (6) can be spun, and with a rotor shaft (5) through which the spinning rotor (1) can be driven, and a bearing (13) preferably arranged in a contactless way, with a drive, especially an individual drive (14), to drive the spinning rotor (3), with a rotor housing (15), in which the rotor cup (4) of the spinning rotor (3) is arranged and which is impinged with spinning negative pressure (pSU) during spinning operation through a negative pressure channel (16) of the open-end spinning device (1), and with a drive housing (17), in which the rotor shaft of the spinning rotor extends, and in which the drive and the bearing (13) of the spinning rotors are arranged, the rotor housing (15) and the drive housing (17) are arranged spaced apart from one another in the open-end spinning device (1) in axial direction of the rotor shaft (5). In a corresponding method to operate such an open-end spinning device (1) of a rotor spinning machine (2), the rotor housing (15) is impinged with spinning negative pressure (pSU) during the spinning operation. Air current is prevented from flowing from the rotor housing (15) into the drive housing (17) by arranging the rotor housing (15) and the drive housing (17) spaced apart from one another in the open-end spinning device (1) in an axial direction of the rotor shaft (5).

    • A method and an apparatus for operating an open-end spinning unit, which comprises a spinning rotor 1 that rotates during the spinning operation at a high rotational speed in a closed rotor housing 2. The spinning rotor is rotated by an individual electric motor drive 18 and supported in a smoothly running bearing assembly. When the drive is disconnected and the rotor housing is properly closed by a cover element 8, the spinning rotor is biased and rotated by an airflow resulting from a vacuum prevailing in the rotor housing and the motor drive operates as a generator. At least one of the electric quantities Pv, Gv which develop during the generator operation of the drive 18 is monitored, and upon exceeding a threshold value which can only be attained when the cover element is properly closed, a signal S is generated and processed in a control unit 30 to cause the cover element 8 on the rotor housing 2 to be locked, and thereafter the drive 18 of the spinning rotor 3 is released for a restart.

    • A drive for a shaftless spinning rotor wherein the spinning rotor is embodied as the rotor of an axial field motor utilizes axially opposed yoke-forming, magnetically conductive elements disposed respectively on the opposite sides of an air gap formed between the spinning rotor and the stator in combination with at least one magnet (preferably either permanent magnets or electromagnets) on one or both the rotor and stator arranged concentrically to one another and to the rotor axis. The present magnet/yoke arrangement does not require exact mutual alignment of oppositely located magnets nor their homogeneous polarization. The present arrangement is self-adjusting because of the generation of a point-symmetrical field which in operation forms a sort of magnetic potential depression. Magnetic drive and guide fields are advantageously decoupled in order to reduce their mutual interference.

The replacement of the spinning rotor (1) together with the bearing casing (3), without exerting a load on the bearings, is made possible by a flange (60) which is disposed on the bearing casing (3) and which extends along the rear side of the spinning rotor (1) and projects at least over the major diameter of the spinning rotor. During replacement of the rotor, the flange (60) serves as a handle, and in normal operation it serves as an additional cooling means for the bearings. By means of a ring (61) mounted on the flange (60), it is possible to form a casing (6) which is open at the front and which, with slight clearance, surrounds the outside contour of the spinning rotor (1) and reduces the consumption of energy.
