    • 877,392. Self-propelled rockets. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. Feb. 17, 1960 [March 3, 1959], No. 5595/60. Class 9(2). To propel a vehicle 11 such as a rocket, nuclear bombs are ejected and exploded at timed intervals, a series of thrusts being imparted to the rocket through plastic sheets 21. Each bomb has a housing 17 held in a rack 19 by bell-cranks 23 operatively connected to the plungers 28 of pneumatic cylinders 29. Each cylinder is connected through a valve 30 to a gas reservoir 31, each valve being hermetically sealed until forced open by explosive means as in U.S.A. Specification 2,515,068, the valves being electrically connected to a cam-operated rotary switch 41 controlled by a timer 39. Each bomb housing is connected by a flexible steel cable 35 to a sheet 21 surrounding a slotted guide 38. Thus, as the detonators of the valves are fired successively, the bomb housings are successively ejected. A latch 22 projecting from one of the supporting bell-cranks moves a toggle switch 26 on the bomb 17 as it is ejected, to start a timer 50 controlling a cam-operated switch 52, so that, a predetermined time after ejection, the switch 52 closes and fires a detonator 53. On explosion of the bomb by the detonators 53 the associated plastic sheet 21 is vaporised and the vapour produced propels the rocket.

A nuclear bomb comprises a hollow sphere 7 of fissionable material and a detonator in the form of a spherical envelope of explosive 8 enclosed by two concentric metal shells 9, 10, which are each connected by an insulated wire 13, 14 passing through a primer 11 and mass 12 to the self inductance coils 16, 17 of alternating voltage source 18. In operation, the generator 18 and coil 17 being connected, the circuit including the coil 16 and capacitor 9-10 oscillates and the molecules of the detonator 8 are acted upon by the electro-magnetic field corresponding to the oscillations, until the frequency of the oscillations becomes equal to one of the activation frequencies of the primary explosive 8, when each of said molecules is broken and produces an explosion, which is propagated in the primer and thereby produces a radial compression and chain fission reaction in the sphere 7. The sphere may be made of plutonium and the detonator of lead azide, penthrite and a polyester resin. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the space 23 between the shells 9, 10 is evacuated and is connected to two tanks 27 each containing one of the components of the explosive mixture which may respectively be tetranitromethane as the comburent and hexanol as the fuel. In operation a switch 35 is closed and the tanks are heated from a current source 33 under the control of thermostats 36; at the desired time a switch 32 causes partitions 28 in the tanks to be perforated by pins 29 and their contents are then drawn in the gaseous state into the evacuated space 23 where the temperature of the mixture is maintained lower than that of activation, by a regulating thermostat. To produce explosion of the mixture and therefore the bomb 7, the regulating thermostat is brought out of circuit to give the activation frequency to the fuel portion of the mixture.

    • 본 발명은 핵폭발 발생을 감지하고 감지된 신호에 따라 전자 기기에 공급되는 전원을 제어하는 핵폭발 탐지 및 제어 장치에 관한 것으로서, 상세하게는 전자 기기를 과전압으로부터 보호하는 크로우바 회로(Crowbar circuit)의 구동을 위한 핵 경보(Nuclear Alarm) 신호를 발생시키는 핵폭발 탐지 및 제어 회로를 디지털화하여 기존의 아날로그회로구성으로 인한 주변온도 및 환경적인 영향에 따른 출력신호의 오차를 방지하고, 출력신호를 다양한 형태로 가공하여 멀티 핵 경보 신호 발생 및 다양한 펄스폭을 갖는 리셋펄스를 생성할 수 있으며, 피폭량을 검출할 수 있는 실시간으로 피폭량을 검출하는 디지털처리방식의 핵폭발 탐지 및 제어 장치에 관한 것이다.
      폭발에 의해 발생된 방사선을 검출하는 피폭감지부와 : 디지털 형태의 펄스지연시간에 의해 리셋펄스의 유지시간이 설정되고, 상기 피폭감지부로부터 방사선이 감지되었을 때 상기의 리셋펄스 유지시간동안 전기 및 전자장치의 보호를 위해 리셋펄스신호를 출력하는 리셋펄스출력부와 ; 상기 피폭감지부로부터 제공된 Vpeak값으로부터 피폭량을 검출하는 피폭량검출부를 포함하여 구성됨을 특징으로 한다.
