    • A fire control mechanism (4) for an automatic cannon comprises a trigger control member (6), which engages the trigger (3) of the cannon structure (2) and is operable by an actuator (5) to move from an inoperative position against a restoring force to an operative position for operating the trigger. To ensure that the cannon has a capability not only for sustained fire but also for a reliable firing of single shots operative connection between the actuactor (5) and the trigger control member (6) is provided by a clutch (16). An end stop (16) is provided, which is selectively movable to and from an inoperative position and only in said operative position is arranged to disengage said clutch when the actuator has performed the movement which is required to move the trigger control member from its inoperative position to its operative position.

    • There is disclosed a repeating firing system for a weapon with a barrel mounted on a lower gun carriage which is horizontally traversed by the gunner, the barrel being capable of being elevated through a substantial angular range. The system includes a firing device capable of repeated operation which serves to actuate a striker pin device disposed on the barrel of the weapon and serving to initiate the firing of the weapon. The firing system has a firing lever operable by the gunner from his weapon sighting and firing position, the firing lever serving to displace a release element, in opposition to the restoring force of a spring, from a position of rest to a firing position, from which, after the firing lever has been turned to effect the firing operation, it is returned by the restoring force of the spring to the position of rest in order to be ready to repeat the firing operation. The system includes means connecting the firing lever with a manual firing lever mounted on the lower gun carriage at the gunner's position in a fixed position relative to the directional and sighting device for the weapon mounted on the lower gun carriage. In the disclosed embodiment, the means by which the gunner traverses the lower gun carriage is a traversing wheel on such carriage and the pivotal axis of the manual firing lever is coaxial of the traversing wheel and thus remains unchanged with respect to the lower gun carriage for every position of the gun barrel within the angular range through which it may be elevated.

    • A dual-motion firing device having both its firing and its arming mechani internal to its tubular housing. A tubular sear is enclosed by the housing and, in turn, encloses an arming rod, both sear and rod extending out of the housing. A tubular firing pin capped and nippled on its forward end encloses the front end of the sear. Pushing the arming rod forward releases a ball which restrains the sear from rearward movement. Then, pulling the sear backward releases another ball which prevents forward motion of the firing pin and a spring propels the latter forward sharply.

    • An ignition arrangement for a barrel weapon having a sliding wedge-type breech block in which a pressure bolt is rotatably mounted in the breech block and the firing pin is slidably movably mounted in the pressure bolt. The firing pin has a transverse rod which extends into a first pair of slots in the pressure bolt and a second pair of longitudinal slots in the breech block. The first pair of slots has a first transverse portion and a second helical portion. The pressure bolt is axially connected to a spiral spring biased control disc which has an actuating cam and a release cam. Coacting cam surfaces are adjustably mounted in the barrel weapon. The opening and closing movements of the breech block cause corresponding rotational movements of the pressure bolt due to the coactions of the actuating or release cams of the control disc with the coacting cam surfaces in the barrel weapon. The rotation of the pressure bolt brings about a retraction or release of the firing pin depending on the coaction of the cam surfaces and cams. The spiral spring acts to propel the firing pin forwardly via the coaction of spiral spring, control disc, pressure bolt, transverse rod, helical slots and longitudinal slots.
