Multiple-way valves. -In a valve for the flexible hose coupling between adjacent railway vehicles, the operating spindle 17 of the main valve 9 has a flat bleed valve disc 12 serving as a fluid tight joint for the spindle 17 and permitting escape of steam or other fluid from one side of the main valve 9 when the latter is closed. As shown, the bleed valve seat 15 has an opening 20 leading at 21 to one side of the main valve 9 and communicating when the latter is closed by a passage 22, or a groove in the valve disc 12, with a passage 23 in the spindle 17 leading to the atmosphere at 24. The disc 12 is pressed to its seat by a spring 14. When the spindle 17 is turned to open the main valve communication between the passage 20 and the atmosphere is interrupted. The spindle 17 may be separate from but rotatably secured to the disc 12, the valve seat 15 having two ports, one leading to one side of the main valve 9 and the other to the atmosphere, communication between the two ports, when the main valve 9 is closed, being established by a semicircular or other groove in the face of the disc 12.

The slide projects into the path of movement of the handle for engaging the handle, and the bracket and the slide form openings that register with each other when the projecting portion of the slide is proximate the handle in the off position. The registered openings are sized and shaped to receive the shackle of a padlock for locking the slide to the bracket, and thus locking the handle in the off position.
