    • A video game system is operable to receive user touch location information while a first user is holding a game controller and to determine a first user ID for the first user based upon the user touch location information. Thereafter, the video game system is operable to measure an instant acceleration of the game controller, to compare the instant acceleration to a first threshold value and to lock the game controller for use by the first user corresponding to the first user ID based on the comparison of the instant acceleration and the first threshold value.

    • A method and apparatus are disclosed for mounting at least one file to a host. The method comprises creating a virtual device image comprising a logical block address table. The method further comprises writing information regarding a block address and a size of an occupied space of the at least one file into the logical block address table, the information being calculated according to a format of a normal device image file system. Moreover, the method comprises recording in the logical block address table a file address map relationship comprising a map from the block address of the at least one file to a real position of the at least one file outside of the virtual device image. Furthermore, the method comprises mounting the virtual device image to the host. At least one directory may be mounted in addition to or in lieu of the at least one file.

    • Pattern model parameters are updated using update equations based on competing patterns that are identical to a reference pattern except for one segment at a time that is replaced with a competing segment. This allows pattern recognition parameters to be tuned one segment at a time, rather than have to try to model distinguishing features of the correct pattern model as a whole, according to an illustrative embodiment. A reference pattern and competing patterns are divided into pattern segments. A set of training patterns are generated by replacing one of the pattern segments in the reference pattern with a corresponding competing pattern segment. For each of the training patterns, a pattern recognition model is applied to evaluate a relative degree of correspondence of the reference pattern with the pattern signal compared to a degree of correspondence of the training patterns with the pattern signal.

    • A method and apparatus for stabilizing the output of a mode-locked laser by monitoring the temporal behavior of the pulse train profile and controlling the laser cavity optical length and/or loss modulation frequency accordingly. A mismatch of the cavity optical length and the loss modulation frequency will yield a first characteristic noise condition on the laser beam pulse train when the optical length is too short for a given loss modulation frequency and a second, different noise condition when the optical length is too long. The laser beam is monitored and analyzed to determine which noise condition is present. The cavity optical length is adjusted accordingly by movement of one or more optical elements or by changing the index of refraction of one or more optical elements. In the alternative, or additionally, the loss modulation frequency can be adjusted to bring the laser back into mode lock.
