    • A combined lip and sleeve seal for use with a generally cylindrical surface relatively rotating shaft is formed by a molding operation and includes a sleeve seal portion for contacting and forming a first oil seal with the shaft and an integrally joined radial lip seal spaced axially from the sleeve seal for contacting and forming a second oil seal with the shaft. The seal may also include an integrally formed dust seal lip at a location spaced axially from the radial lip seal on the side thereof opposite the sleeve seal. The radial lip seal and sleeve seal may include a liner formed from a low friction synthetic resin material such as a sintered polytetrafluoroethylene. The sleeve seal is formed as an initially generally radially inwardly extending annular flange having an inner diameter less than the outer diameter of the cylindrical surface of the relatively rotating shaft and is deflected axially and expanded radially to provide a substantially cylindrical sealing surface contacting the shaft surface when installed on the shaft.

    • A method of forming a sealing member comprising a metal body having a resilient material thereon and a resiliently deflectable lip member extending inwardly from the edge of a hole in the metal body for sealingly contacting a surface, including the steps of: (a) forming a hole in a generally flat, comparatively thin metal sheet; (b) coating at least one side of the metal sheet with a resilient material in such a manner that the resilient material at least covers the hole; (c) cutting away a predetermined amount of resilient material inwardly of the edge of the hole to form the resiliently deflectable lip member, and (d) forming the metal sheet and resilient coating into a predetermined shape defining the outer configuration for the sealing member.

    • A rolling contact bearing assembly includes a seal member having a seal lip segment. The seal lip segment includes a waist portion having, as viewed in a cross section, a bent V-shape such that a surface of the seal lip segment on outer side defines a relief recess and also includes a protrusion portion distal to the waist portion and having a tapered shape narrowing towards a free end thereof. The seal member installed in the bearing assembly applies urging force on one of inner and outer raceway rings, against change in degree of interference of the protrusion portion with the raceway ring. The protrusion portion includes such high wear material that rotation of the bearing assembly results in wear of the protrusion portion to cause the protrusion portion to make non-contact status or light contact status of a contact pressure of substantially zero.
