The welding waveform includes a plurality of welding pulses, with each welding pulse having a peak welding current level. The system also includes a hot-wire power supply to supply a heating waveform. The heating waveform includes a plurality of heating pulses, with each heating pulse having a peak heating current level. A controller, which is operatively connected to the arc welding power supply and the hot-wire power supply, synchronizes the plurality of welding pulses and the plurality of heating pulses such that at least a portion of the peak welding current level overlaps with at least a portion of the peak heating current level.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for welding a component to fill a groove therein. The method entails simultaneously projecting an electric arc and at least first and second laser beams into the groove. The electric arc melts and deposits a filler material in the groove while the first and second laser beams are projected onto opposite first and second walls, respectively, of the groove. Adjustment of the degree of vacuum within the nozzle adjusts the bearing pressure of the nozzle on the workpiece.

摘要： A laser-radio frequency system for generating a high temperature beam and for directing and modulating the combined beam at a workpiece or target. The system includes a hollow circular electrode mounted within a circular nozzle and spaced apart from the nozzle to define an annular gap. A radio frequency generator having a hollow metal coil as its tank coil is connected to the nozzle and a pressurized inert gas is fed through the tank coil into the nozzle. When the generator is activated, a coherent R.F. electron stream is emitted from the electrode and the inert gas flows along the annular gap to sheath and focus the stream into an energy beam directed toward the workpiece. A laser generator provides a laser beam through the hollow portion of the electrode which is reflected and focused onto the workpiece; therefore an algebraic summation of both electromagnetic energies is obtained at the workpiece in the non-oxidizing atmosphere. The radio frequency tank coil may be connected to a source of powder for spraying a coating on the workpiece.

In Fig. 1, the beam from a laser 16 is split by a half-silvered mirror 20 and part of the beam is focused by a lens 26 on to the tape record 10 to melt its surface and thereby erase any information previously recorded. The other part of the beam is reflected by a mirror 28 through a variable focus lens 34 and a fixed focus lens 36 on to the tape which has previously been electrically charged by a unit 30. The lens 34 is adapted to focus or defocus the beam under the control of an information source 37, and when the beam is focused the record is heated sufficiently to cause local deformation of the surface under the influence of the electrostatic charge and surface tension. The laser 16 may be pulsed or continuous wave and may use calcium fluoride doped with divalent dysprosium, calcium tungstate doped with trivalent neodymium, ruby, or a gas such as helium, neon, argon, krypton or xenon, or a semi-conductor gallium arsenide diode.
