    • The invention provides systems, methods, and articles useful in the production of foams, and, in particular microcellular foams. The systems include a restriction element (35) that reduces the backflow of polymer melt in an extruder while polymeric material is injected into a mold (37) or ejected from a die. The restriction element is positioned upstream of a blowing agent injection port (54) to maintain the solution of polymer and blowing agent in the extruder above a minimum pressure throughout an injection or ejection cycle, and preferably above the critical pressure required for the maintenance of a single-phase solution of polymer and blowing agent. The systems can be used in injection molding, blow molding, or in any other processing techniques that include injection or ejection cycles. In some embodiments, the systems utilize reciprocating screws for injection or ejection. In other embodiments, the systems include an accumulator connected to an outlet of the extruder, in which a plunger moves to inject polymeric material into a mold or eject polymeric material from a die.

    • A process for producing a tire according to a strip build technique by the use of an injection molding machine, in which strip rubber injection can be performed in the state of being uniform in the blending degree and plasticity level of rubber material. There is provided a process for producing a tire by the use of injection molding machine (A) equipped with material feeding aperture (8) for charging of rubber material, screw (1) for driving forward in the axial direction of the charged rubber material while blending the same, material charging compartment (4) disposed on the distal end side of the screw (1) and material passage (C) for feeding of the rubber material from the distal end side of the screw (1) to the material charging compartment (4). The process comprises the steps of feeding the rubber material from the material feeding aperture (8), driving the rubber material forward while blending the same by means of the screw (1) and through the material passage (C), charging the material charging compartment (4) with the rubber material; causing the screw (1) and material feeding aperture (8) to retreat; advancing the screw (1) and carrying out injection of strip rubber from the material charging compartment (4); and winding the strip rubber (S) while rotating forming drum (B) to thereby make tire configuration.

    • An apparatus for the extrusion a multi-layer parison comprises an extrusion blow molding head having a bore passing through the head with a diverter sleeve located within the bore. There is a first manifold in fluid communication with a first die inlet, the first manifold substantially surrounds the diverter sleeve and is in fluid communication with a proximal end of a flow path formed by the diverter sleeve and the bore; wherein the flow path extends from the proximal end to a head exit and a first land that has a variable width is positioned between the first manifold and the flow path. A second manifold is in fluid communication with a second die inlet, the second manifold substantially surrounds the diverter sleeve and is in fluid communication with the flow path at a first location downstream from the proximal end of the flow path; wherein the flow path has a width that increases at the first location; and a second land that has a variable width positioned between the second manifold and the flow path. The first manifold, the first land, the second manifold, and the second land are sized so that the flow of material through the flow path from proximal end to the head exit is substantially consistent to create a multi-layer flow of material to form the parison having a wall of a substantially similar cross section. The method includes introducing predefined volumes of polymer melt to the manifolds, passing the volume to the flow path and extruding the parison.
