摘要： A method and apparatus are disclosed for imparting a desired shape to a paperboard blank. The blank is formed between two dies for a sufficient length of time and with sufficient force to set the form, while moving the dies in tandem along a predetermined portion of a reciprocation path. Because the formed blank remains in dwell while the dies are moving in tandem, it is not necessary to hold the dies stationary to ensure permanent formation of the blank. This allows greater production speeds.

A sheet of material is positioned between the male die and the female die. The apparatus further includes means for supplying a stream of air between the female die and the formed article to release the formed article from the female die and means for holding the formed article against the male die as the male die and the female die are positioned from a forming position to a discharge position whereby the formed article is removed from the female die.

The apparatus includes a male die, a female die, a presence sensing assembly, and a control assembly. The presence sensing assembly is positioned for sensing the presence of an operator in a sheet feeding zone which is located between an operator's station and a zone of operation of the male die and the female die. The control assembly initiates an article forming sequence, wherein the male die and the female die are moved from a discharge position to a forming position to form the article from the sheet of material and subsequently returned to the discharge position, in response to the operator clearing the presence sensing assembly subsequent to the operator breaking the presence sensing assembly while positioning a sheet of material between the male die and the female die via the sheet feeding area.

摘要： An apparatus and method is provided for simultaneously forming at least two interconnected deep-drawn containers in a single sheet of paper stock or the like. The apparatus includes a female die assembly formed to include a material-receiving cavity situated between spaced-apart first and second container-forming cavities. A blade assembly pushes a portion of the single sheet downwardly into the material-receiving cavity to provide a source of excess paperboard material from which the paper for adjacent containers can be drawn. A male die assembly moves to engage the female die assembly and draw at least the excess paperboard material deposited in the material-receiving cavity to form containers in the first and second container-forming cavities. A draw ring holds the sheet against the female die assembly during operation of the male die assembly. The apparatus and method are usable to simultaneously draw a pair of containers joined together by a hinged section so that one container can be folded about an axis over the other container to provide a clamshell container assembly.

Rotational drive speed of the machine is set and limited by the cycle rate of the hot forming press but two or more, register cut product units are cut and stacked from a single ply, registered controlled web supply within a single cycle interim of the forming press. Consequently, the speed limiting step of the entire machine continues, with a single ply web supply to operate with a high percentage of maximum productivity.
