    • A shim is disclosed. The shim includes a body member having (i) a top wall segment having a first end and a second end, (ii) a first end wall segment attached to and extending from the first end of the top wall segment, (iii) a second end wall segment attached to and extending from the second end of the top wall segment, and (iv) a bottom wall segment having a third end and a fourth end, the third end of the bottom wall segment being attached to the first end wall segment, and the fourth end of the bottom wall segment being attached to the second end wall segment. The top wall segment, the first end wall segment, the second end wall segment and the bottom wall segment are all made from a plastic material. Additionally, the shim may include a plurality of latitudinal apertures.

    • A plastic wedge shaped shim for leveling which is prescored to enable protruding section to be broken off. Parallel, straight, scores are formed at regular intervals on the top surface of the shim. These scores form teeth enabling stacked shims to interengage one another when one is placed inverted on another. The underside of the shim has recesses configured such that there exists a zone of constituent material which has equal localized thickness measurements along that portion of the length of the shim wherein scores and the recess formed in the underside of the shim are in overlying relationship. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the recesses form cleats for resisting sliding or other displacement of the shim.

    • A window frame provided with a tapered sub-sill that is mounted on the wall and via a plurality of spaced spacers tapered in the opposite direction to support the main frame sill element in its substantially horizontal position. The use of the tapered sub-sill and tapered spacers permit the sealing membrane positioned between the wall structure and the wall facing to pass therebetween and provide a good seal and provide a solid base for the main sill. In the preferred arrangement, a snap in seal is connected to the outside bottom edge of the sill and forms a seal between the facing layer and the sill and provides a projecting flashing to redirect rain.

    • A height-compensating construction shim has a one-piece plate having opposite parallel upper and lower faces and is formed with a wedge-shaped end having angled surfaces, a longitudinal slot subdividing the plate at the end into a pair of longitudinally extending arms, and rows of transverse elastic retaining tabs projecting toward each other in the slot from inner edges of the arms. An outwardly open bevel is formed on each arm inner edge at an outer end of each arm and longitudinal guide ridges are provided on the angled web surfaces.     • An extendible and tiltable shim is provided having a hingeably connected leg that is extendable. The leg can extend to adjust the height and the angle of the shim. The shim is mounted to a structure member and abuts to a frame member. The structure member can comprise a rough opening in a wall. The frame member can comprise a door jamb or a window jamb. The method of the invention includes an initial step of attaching the bottom plate of the shim to a structure, extending the leg to contact the frame member, and adjusting the extension of the leg to center and plumb the frame member. The shim accurately and reliably adjusts a door jamb or window jamb within a rough opening in a wall for proper alignment. The shim tilts at an angle and offsets to accommodate crooked and misaligned wall structure. The shim can easily retrofit to a standard door jamb or a window frame for the purpose of aiding in the square alignment of the door jamb or window jamb within a rough opening in wall structure.
