    • A slicing blade (310) is mounted in a slicing station at an offset rotation axis (320) from a midway axis (240) passing generally equidistant between at least first and second product loaves (230, 270) disposed in a side-by-side arrangement. The slicing edge (325, 330, 340) of the blade generates substantially similar but oppositely directed product throwing angles for slices with respect to the midway axis. A single rotation of the slicing edge results in a penetration gradient into each of the loaves that diminishes in magnitude over the single rotation. To this end, the slicing edge may have a profile defined by a plurality of constant radius sections (325, 330, 340). Each section has a section center (345, 350, 355) defining the center of the constant radius section, and each section center differs from the section center of an adjacent constant radius section. This arrangement provides great control of slices (500) from loaves as well as resulting in substantially concurrent severence of slices from the product loaves to facilitate decrease in slicing cycle duration.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a knife cylinder in a rotary cutter, which knife cylinder can cope with a recent tendency for a high speed cutting operation and a large width of a corrugated sheet, and is light-weighted, and has satisfactory bending and torsional stiffness. SOLUTION: The knife cylinder has knives spirally arranged on the outer circumferential surfaces of a pair of cylindrical bodies respectively. A cylinder body is made of a CFRP layer, and has a tensional elastic modulus of 206 GPa or more in the axial direction of the cylinder. It is preferable that an innermost layer is made of a CFRP layer 41 having a fiber gradient angle along the circumferential direction of the cylinder, and a plurality of CFRP layers 42 having a fiber gradient angle along the axial direction of the cylinder and CFRP layers 43, 44 having a fiber gradient angle of ±30 to ±60 degrees with respect to the axial direction of the cylinder are randomly laminated on the innermost layer so as to improve the compressive strength, the adhesive property between respective layers, and further the torsional stiffness.     • The present invention relates to a novel helical drum shear (10) which is operable to cut a strip of material (12) which moving at a first velocity (V F ). The helical drum shear (10) comprises a means for cutting the material (12) wherein the cutting means (30) moves at a second velocity (V D ) which is at a predetermined angle from the first velocity (V F ) (Fig. 4).     • During the production of staff panels, it is a known measure to use a belt sanding machine to smooth panels whose surfaces have been roughened by treatment. The sanding belts become worn down and accumulate grinding dust and so must be replaced frequently. With the novel device, accumulation of dust on the tools is prevented and wear minimised. A rotating worm (7) with drive is provided above a conveyer belt (1). The device is incorporated in a staff panels production facility preferably upstream of the dryer. The panels are smoothed when still damp and thus without any dust being produced. The novel device is also suitable for smoothing panels or battens made from other materials such as wood or plastic. Also included in the invention is a hand device of design analogous to that of the fixed device and based on the same principle.
