    • A pop-out handle lock assembly having a frangible and easily replaceable handle portion is provided. As with other pop-out handle lock assemblies, the pop-out handle lock assembly of the present invention is used to lock a movable closure member relative to a stationary object such as a vending machine door and a vending machine cabinet, respectively. In operation, the pop-out handle lock assembly of the present invention is received by a housing which is mounted to the movable closure member. The housing, in particular, has a longitudinal slot formed therethrough, and includes a front face portion which abuts the movable closure member and a generally perpendicular rear guide portion which extends into the movable closure member. The pop-out lock assembly of the present invention includes a stem portion and a frangibly attached handle portion. The pop-out handle lock assembly also includes a lock plug assembly rotatable disposed within a bore in the stem portion and a threaded lock stud operatively connected thereto. In use, the handle portion may be frangibly detached from the stem portion without yielding access to the stationary object by applying a prying force between the handle portion and the front face portion of the housing. Also, an auxiliary replacement handle portion provides a convenient, simple, and inexpensive way to replace the handle portion once it has been tampered with and detached in the field.

    • An electronically controlled security lock is provided for use with safes, vaults, hotel rooms, safe deposit boxes, and the like. The security lock includes a housing having an interior region, exterior surfaces, and an aperture therethrough with a pair of opposed channels. The security lock also includes a dead bolt which is slidably disposed within the aperture of the housing, an actuator with a movable plunger element such as an electromagnetic solenoid which is arranged within the interior region of the housing, and a linkage which connects the plunger element and the dead bolt. The linkage of the security lock includes a pin which is received by openings formed in the dead bolt and by the channels of the aperture. In operation, the plunger element of the actuator moves the linkage and the dead bolt when an electric current is passed through the actuator. More specifically, the dead bolt moves between a retracted position wherein the dead bolt is substantially withdrawn within the housing and an extended position wherein the dead bolt protrudes at least partially outwardly away from the housing. When the dead bolt is in the extended position, the pin of the linkage engages stops formed within the channels of the aperture and latches the dead bolt in the extended position. A spring is also provided between the actuator and the linkage for biasing the dead bolt towards the extended position.

    • An improved dust shutter assembly for locks includes a floating hinge point which decreases the amount of axial key force that is necessary to overcome the spring bias in the dust shutter mechanism. When engaged by a key, the spring retention pin (hinge point) of the dust shutter mechanism moves within the pin slots of the lock plug cavity until it bottoms out against the back of these slots. Pin translation is primarily axial, in the direction of key insertion, which partially unloads the spring and reduces the amount of key force that is required to open the shutter door. Since less key force is necessary, a narrower shutter door can be used. The chief advantage of a narrower shutter door includes a corresponding reduction in the size and length of the entire lock assembly.
