    • An invertable tray/vial package assembly is disclosed formed of separable interlockably connected top and bottom vial holding and locating tray sections which tray enables and effects holding and spatial positioning of a plurality of vials therein for selective external access to the vials at their respective opposite fluid content filling ends and fluid serving ends, for ease of vial filling, closing, handling, labeling and visual identification of vial contents, and for dispensing of the vials and serving the fill content of a vial to a patient. The tray has vial holding and spatially positioning pockets formed on one of its separable sections, with fluid-fill enabling openings formed in the bottom end of each of the pockets, and which are effectively registrable with closeable fill openings of vials disposed therein. The serving mouth ends of the vials are sealed with a peelably removable sealing strip which joins a column of vials together with tear perforations therebetween, and onto which sealing strip is secured a correspondingly tear-perforated labeling strip after filling of the vials and closure of the fill end, of the vials filling and labeling of the vials without necessity for removal of the vials from the tray to effect such filling and labeling.

    • In this fluid dispensing control system, the size of a container to be filled is established by a set of photosensors mounted on the dispenser housing. Discrimination circuitry distinguishes between ambient light level and light reflected from the container that is placed under the spout. Delay and lock-out circuitry is provided to insure that an erroneous size-indicating signal is not generated as the container is moved into position, and to insure that the size-indicating signal does not change once pouring has begun. Timer circuitry controls the pouring duration and insures complete, uniform filling of each size container. Counter and display circuitry tallies the number of containers, of each size that have been filled, and indicates the total volume of fluid that has been dispensed.

    • Automated filling system including a reservoir, a motor and a rotary actuator supplying power to the system, a filler head, means for advancing the viscous material from the reservoir to the filler head, a rotatable cutting head depending from the filler head to (1) discharge viscous materials therethrough into a series of containers, and (2) cleanly sever the viscous materials after each container has been filled. The cutting head includes a first hollow tube that is open at its upper end and has a semicircular opening and a semicircular planar surface at its lower end, and a second, slightly larger hollow tube that is open at its upper end and has a semicircular cutting blade and a semicircular opening at its lower end. The tubes are concentrically mounted, and the rotary actuator periodically drives the tubes relative to each other. A thrust washer and resilient O-ring absorb axial movement of the tubes. During the filling phase, the semicircular openings in the tubes are aligned so that the viscous material is forced into the container which may be held in a telescoping relationship to the tubes. At a predetermined point in the cycle of operation, the rotary actuator imparts relative rotation to the tubes so that the cutting blade cooperates with the planar surface to cleanly shear the viscous material.
