The lamp housing contains in addition to the LED's, one or more focusing lenses to gather and direct the light generated by the LED's forward to an illuminated work area. Batteries, preferably rechargeable, are mounted in a waist pack external to the headband, and are used to power the LED's. A cooling system for cooling the heat generated by the LED's is provided which utilizes a swirling effect of fluid adjacent a heat sink to transfer the heat to the swirling fluid.

In other words, the deuterium lamp (10), likely to be influenced by temperature, is enclosed in a double shield structure including the case (41) as well as the lamp box (42). As a result, the deuterium lamp (10) is kept fairly insensitive to the change in temperature of the case (41) that is most affected by ambient temperature, so the light source can be used outdoors regardless of the weather and indoors regardless of the influence of the air conditioner. Since the lamp box (42) is adapted to receive the deuterium lamp (10) through its top, the lamp (10) can be easily replaced if the case (41) is designed compact, thus increasing the portability of the light source outdoors.

With a non-rechargeable battery inserted in the battery compartment, the indicator is in the rear position and the switch is not closed, thereby preventing the non-rechargeable battery from being recharged while in the battery compartment.
