    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simplified planetarium device which is less expensive and easier to handle than optical planetariums of the conventional technology, can project starry sky that is sharper and more beautiful than a pinhole planetarium, and which can easily recreate a starry sky in a home environment or the like, without having to use using a special dome screen. SOLUTION: A light, outputted from a light source 6, passes through a transmission plate 3, a fixed diaphragm 2, and a wide-angle projection lens 1 via a condenser lens 5, and projects a starry sky on a screen. The transmission plate 3 is a light-blocking circular disc, with a multiplicity of apertures 3a, corresponding to the positions and the brightness of the actual stars, which are supported by the inner ring of the ball bearing 4, of which center is the rotational axis 10 of the circular disc, can rotate about the rotational axis 10 and is driven by a motor 8 via a belt 7. The centers of the projection lens 1, the window of the fixed diaphragm 2, the condenser lens 5, and the light source 6 are all disposed on the optical axis 9, and the centers of the transmission plate 3, a pulley 11, and the ball bearing 4 coincide with the rotational axis 10.     • A spherical electronic display is disclosed that includes a spherical display screen that is able to display electronically generated images on its surface using electronic display technology included in the surface, and an electronic control unit in communication with the spherical display screen, the electronic control unit being able to cause the spherical display screen to display images. The electronically controlled spherical display uses low energy display technology, such as LCD and/or OLED electronics, included within the spherical surface. This approach avoids the need to project images onto a spherical screen, and thereby avoids any need for high energy optical projectors and their associated costs and maintenance requirements. The spherical display is connectable to an electronic control unit that can be located either within the sphere or within a support base. The electronic control unit can be a conventional computer or a self-contained, dedicated controller.

The centers of the projection lens, a window of the fixed aperture, the condenser lens, and the light source are all arranged on the optical axis, and the centers of the stellar base plate, the pulley and the ball bearing correspond to the axis of rotation.

    • Disclosed is a celestial identification device. According to some embodiments, the device includes a housing, a positioning sensor, and a light generator structured to generate an indicator beam that can be pointed at celestial objects. The positioning sensor can include sensors to determine altitude and azimuth of the device. The light generator can be a laser and mounted to a moveable pivot or deflected by mirrors and/or lenses such that the light beam points in a different direction than the housing. The device can be coupled to a feedback device, such as an audio player to communicate information about celestial objects to a user. The device can also contain or be coupled to a database of celestial objects such that, when combined with the positional data of the device, can determine at which object the device is pointing. Further, in some embodiments, a celestial device can be selected from the database, and the device operates to point the indicator beam at the selected object, regardless of in which direction the device is pointing.
