    • Novel compounds of the formula in which R is hydrogen, a cycloalkyl radical, which may be substituted, or a phenyl radical, which may be substituted, R1, R2 are alkyl radicals having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, alkenyl radicals, a phenyl or aralkyl radical, either of which may be substituted, a cycloalkyl radical, or the radical of benzohiazole, carboxymethyl, or tetrahydrofuran, are prepared by reacting the corresponding 4,5-dichloropyridazone derivatives with alkyl mercaptans, aralkyl mercaptans, thiophenols, thiocarboxylic acids or heterocycles containing thiol groups. The new compounds are useful as herbicides.ALSO:Herbicides contain compounds of the formula: in which R is hydrogen, a cycloalkyl radical which may be substituted, or a phenyl radical, which may be substituted, R1, R2 are alkyl radicals having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, alkenyl, a phenyl or aralkyl radical, either of which may be substituted, a cyclo-alkyl radical, or the radical of benzothiazole, carboxymethyl, or tetrahydrofuran, in admixture with a solid or liquid carrier material. The invention also comprises a method of regulating plant growth by using a phytotoxic amount of compounds of the above formula. The herbicides may be in the form of solutions, emulsions, suspensions, or dusting powders. Additives having bactericidal, fungicidal or plant growth regulating properties or fertilizers may also be present in the herbicidal compositions.

    • The invention comprises 4-nitro-5-hydroxypyridazones-(6) of the formula in which R denotes a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic radical or a sulphonyl radical of a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or aryl sulphonic acid and R1 denotes a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkoxy radical or an aryl radical. R may be further substituted, for example, by chlorine, bromine, hydroxy, nitro or alkoxy. The above compounds are prepared by reacting a 4,5-dihalopyridazone of the formula (wherein X and Y denote halogen atoms) with a nitrite in a molar ratio of 1 to at least 3, optionally in the presence of a solvent and/or suspension agent. Suitable nitrites are sodium, potassium, barium and potassium-mercury nitrites. The preparation of ammonium, pyridinium and sodium salts of the above 4-nitro5-hydroxy-pyridazones-(6) is described. 4 - Amino - 5 - hydroxypyridazones - (6) are prepared by reduction of the above 4-nitro-5hydroxypyridazones-(6 with zinc and hydrochloric acid. 4 - Diazo - 5 - hydroxypyridazones - (6) are prepared by diazotization of the corresponding 4-amino-5-hydroxypyridazones-(6) with nitrous acid. 4 - Nitro - 5,6 - diacetoxypyridazine is prepared by acetylation of 4-nitro-5-hydroxypyridazone-(6) with a mixture of acetic anhydride and sulphuric acid.
