    • An equipment pad includes a base and a plurality of riser portions. The base includes a base surface that extends laterally outward and a base opening formed completely through the base surface. Each riser portion includes a top surface, a side wall, and an interior. The top surface is substantially level and continuous. The side wall tapers inward and extends upward from the base surface, elevating the top surface portion above the base surface. The interior, defined between the top surface and the side wall, is substantially hollow. The riser portions together define a single, continuous riser, at least one of the riser portions forming an angle with reference to an adjacent riser portion such that the riser includes at least one turn. The riser top surfaces together define a substantially level support surface for receiving the equipment unit, and the riser interiors align with the base opening so that the equipment pad is stackable.

    • The present invention relates to a system and method for reducing image artifacts for a CMOS camera used as an optical detector for a line confocal fluorescent imager. The method for reducing image artifacts in a monochromatic image comprises subtracting RGB channel offset mismatch; and correcting random row offset for each row. Preferably, the method also comprises correcting random column offset and gain. Optionally, the method also comprises clipping of defective pixels, and/or subtracting dark current. When the monochromatic image is a fluorescence image, the method also comprises a step of compressing CMOS camera noise. Also provided are a system for reducing image artifacts in a monochromatic image from a CMOS camera, as well as an image artifact reduction system for a CMOS camera-based line confocal fluorescent microscope.

The volumes and patterns of array droplets delivered to the substrate or substrate cover are optimized to maintain adequate immersion liquid between the substrate or substrate cover and an immersion objective while avoiding the formation of air bubbles in the immersion liquid and the accumulation of excess volumes of immersion liquid.

    • Provided is a plant derived extract including inhibitory activity against one or more extracellular proteases which degrade human tissue matrix. Moreover, the amount of inhibitory activity in an extract can be increased by stressing the plant prior to forming an extract. These extracts are each prepared by a process and demonstrate the ability to inhibit one or more extracellular proteases which degrade human tissue matrix. Libraries of extracts can be prepared from stressed and non-stressed plants, where each of the extracts demonstrate inhibitory activity against on or more extracellular protease inhibitors. Alternatively, semi-purified and purified inhibitory compounds can be isolated from the extracts. In one aspect, these extracts with inhibitory activity can be used during protein purification to minimize degradation due to extracellular proteases.
