    • Platen-mounted, post-mold cooling apparatus and method includes structure and/or steps for handling molded parts in an injection molding machine having a fixed platen, a moving platen, a core half, and a cavity half. A take off device coupled to the fixed platen is configured to remove molded parts from either the core half or the cavity half. A cooling device coupled to the moving platen is configured to cool the molded parts carried by the take off device. Preferably, the take off device extracts the just molded parts from the mold's core half and then moves linearly outboard of the mold halves. The subsequent movement of the moving platen to close the mold in the next molding cycle causes the cooling device's pins to engage the molded parts in the take off device part carriers. When the moving platen opens again, the molded parts are extracted from the part carriers by external gripping devices. When the moving platen is fully open, the cooling device is rotated to eject the cooled parts from the machine.

    • Article transfer apparatus for cyclically transferring articles from an article forming machine, such as a plastic injection molding machine, to an adjacent article receiving chute or conveyor system. The transfer apparatus is mechanically linked to and driven by relative movement of platens on the forming machine to positively interlock the forming and transfer mechanisms against interference with each other. A control system operated by mechanical elements of the transfer system is employed to control the application of pressure or vacuum to article handling elements of the system at appropriate points in the cycle to enable the elements to grip, release or convey the article being handled.

    • A handling system for a plastic material injection molding machine comprises an arm for unloading plastic material articles from hollow cavities of a mold of the plastic material injection molding machine. The hollow cavities are arranged in a first plane and the arm essentially moves within the first plane. A conveyor system moves within a second plane for transporting away the plastic material articles. A transfer station is arranged between the mold and the conveyor system for transferring the unloaded plastic material articles from the first plane to the second plane. The transfer station comprises a transfer plate for the plastic material articles and is adapted to be moved along a predetermined trajectory from a first operational position within the first plane into a second operational position within the second plane. The trajectory extends essentially outside the first plane.

    • A take-off plate insertable from above between the relatively movable mold portions of an injection-molding machine co-operates with a transfer plate cantilevered on a transverse shaft at the top of a column rotatable through 180*. The shaft carrying the transfer plate is coupled by a step-down bevel-gear transmission with a fixed tube surrounding the rotatable column so that this plate turns through 90* during each 180* swing. In its vertical position, the transfer plate confronts the elevated take-off plate and removes from it the newly formed article or articles extracted from the mold; these articles are held by grippers which are deactivated in a horizontal position of the swung-out transfer plate to release the articles into an underlying receptacle therefor.
