    • An arrangement for the processing of a moving material web, in particular for the creasing or punching of an extruded material web made of plastics. In the manufacture of such material webs a number of operational steps take place directly in conjunction with the manufacture of the web itself, and the fact that for reasons of quality as well as of manufacturing technique the extrusion process cannot be interrupted makes it necessary to attend to any changes in the crease pattern etc. during operation. The arrangement in accordance with the invention makes this possible in that the material web can be brought into contact optionally with different pairs of processing rollers with the help of a pair of counter-rollers supported in a swivelling cradle, any pair of unused rollers being freely exchangeable against a pair of rollers with a different creasing pattern. The arrangement permits the processing of both sides of the web and the rapid exchange of different processing patterns during continuing production, which is particularly advantageous in the processing of material webs for the manufacture of packing containers.

    • A dual ratio drive for a rotary sheer comprises a parallel pair of first shafts carrying freely rotatable first gears. A pair of second shafts are rotatable about axes parallel to the axes of the first shafts. Each second shaft carries a shear blade, and a second gear in meshed relationship with one of the first gears. A drive shaft is connectable to one of the second shafts by a first gear set having a high speed ratio, and is connectable to one of the first shafts by a second gear set having a low speed ratio.     • A rotating shearing device for cropping fast-running rolling stock, in particular wire, includes two axially cutting annular knives which rotate about their axes at the same rotational speed. The two axially cutting annular knives include end cutting edges directed toward one another which converge to the clearance required for separating running stock during the cutting operation and lie in planes which are arranged at an acute angle to one another and intersect one another in a line. The rolling stock is guided toward the shearing device by a front guide and guided away from the shearing device by a rear guide. The front guide is pivotable to change in the relative position between the rolling stock and the cutting body so that the rolling stock may be guided either through the space between the annular knives which is free for the cut-free passage of the rolling stock or into the wedge-shaped cutting region of the annular knives. The rear guide part arranged behind the shearing device is also pivotable between a lower end and upper end position.

    • A workpiece issuing from a rolling mill is directed by a tubular guide to pass above the knives of a flying shear that is driven in a drive train used to rotate a cam used to pivot the guide tube and direct the workpiece into the shear. The workpiece moves beyond the shear into one of a plurality of retardation channels formed in a drum. There may be shock absorbers at their remote ends to prevent escapement of the sheared workpieces in the event they fail to stop by sliding friction. The drum rotates at a relatively slow speed. When a trailing end of a sheared workpiece moves beyond the shear into the drum, the leading end of the remaining length of workpiece enters a laterally-adjacent channel which has moved into the path of travel by the workpiece through rotation of the drum. A conveyor receives workpieces discharged from the drum through rotation thereof and carries them to a remote discharge station where they are loaded into a cradle car.
