    • 1,271,511. Clerical and like garments. J. C. GLEESON. 24 April, 1969 [8 May, 1968], No. 21752/68. Heading A3V. A clerical garment has a limp washable collar 11 of which two ends are spaced apart from one another at the centre of the front of the garment, the collar having integral means adapted to accommodate or support the ends of at least one stiffening device 21, 22 to stiffen the front portion, including the ends, of the collar. The garment, which may be a clerical shirt or cassock, may open at the front as in Figs. 3 and 8, or at the side or back as in Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown). The collar 11 is formed of three layers, 15, 16 and 17, layers 15 and 17 extending beyond the ends 18 of layer 16 and being folded back about lines 19 and sewn to form, with layer 16, two pairs of pockets which accommodate curved plastics, aluminium or other stiffening strips 21, 22. The strips 21, 22 may alternatively each be accommodated in a single pocket open at either end (110), (121) or at one side (111) Figs. 11, 12 (not shown); a single stiffening strap may extend round the whole collar, supported at each end by a pocket, Figs. 7, 12 (not shown). A stock band 61, Fig. 9, has pockets open at 200, 201 for stiffening devices, and supports a clerical collar (not shown) which may be fastened at the back of the neck and anchored to the neckband by a stud or snap fastener; alternatively the stockband and clerical collar may be secured to the garment by a large bib (31) attached to the stockband and in frictional engagement with the garment, Fig. 5 (not shown), or the bib may be made into a small member 60, Fig. 9, and attached to the garment by a button 62. The collar ends may be wholly separated as in Fig. 3, the garment being closed by fasteners 23, 24, or may be partly separated as in Fig. 8.
