    • A method of separating particulate materials (5) of different properties has been developed. It consists of feeding a mixture of dry, powdered materials (5) to one end of the surface of a planar electrode (2), which is vibrating (7) to move the particles forward. At least one type (8) of the particulate materials (5) acquires a charge via conduction or triboelectrification. Those particles (8) that acquire charges of the same sign as that of the planar electrode (2) are lifted and collected at the V-shaped counter electrodes (3) installed above. The new separation method is particularly useful for removing unburned carbons from fly ash and any other conducting materials from nonconducting ones.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric discharge type static separator of improved recovery ratio of insulating crushed refuse. SOLUTION: An electric discharge type static separator is provided with a grounding first metal drum electrode 15 on which crushed refuse 11 to separated is scattered on its upper face, a discharge metal-shaped high voltage electrode 16, a first brush 17 for scraping crushed refuse 11 adsorbed and separated onto the metal drum electrode 15, a grounding second metal drum electrode 18 constituted of a plurality of metal disks disposed below the first metal drum electrode 15, a second brush 19 for scraping the crushed refuse 1 to be separated being adsorbed on the grounding second metal drum electrode 18, a first separation container 21 disposed below the second metal drum electrode 18 and on its front position, and a second separation container 22 disposed below the grounding second metal drum electrode 18 and on the rear position. Insulating crushed refuse 11B is separated from conductive crushed refuse 11A and recovered by the above constitution, and areas on which the insulating crushed refuse 11B adheres are increased by a plurality of metal disks to improve the recovery ratio of the insulating crushed refuse 11B.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive electrostatic sorting apparatus operated by voltage lower than that of a falling type or discharge type one and not too affected by a crushing size and enhanced in sorting capacity. SOLUTION: By providing a charge device 22 charging ground waste refuse 21 to be sorted, a disc metal plate electrode 24A receiving the application of high voltage and feeding the ground waste refuse 22 to be sorted delivered from the charge device 22 while horizontally rotated, a metal plate electrode 24B attracting the ground waste refuse 21 to be sorted repulsed by the metal plate electrode 24A, a first suction passage 28 recovering the ground waste refuse 21 to be sorted flown from the metal plate electrode 24A by centrifugal force, a second suction passage 29 recovering the ground waste refuse 21 to be sorted attracted on the metal plate electrode 24A and a third suction passage 31 recovering the ground waste refuse 21 to be sorted attracted to the metal plate electrode 24B, the ground waste refuse 21 to be sorted can be sorted and, since this waste refuse 21 is brought into contact with the metal plate electrode 24A to flow, it can be sorted by voltage lower than that of a conventional system.
