    • 1,001,678. Furniture combinations. IMEX ENGINEERING Ltd., and J. ANDERSON. March 13, 1964 [March 15, 1963], No. 10302/63. Heading A4H. [Also in Division G2] In a combined carrier and support for a cine-camera, the camera 11 is secured to a base member 10. This has an upturned lug 12, 13 at each end, each lug having a straight edge 14 and an arcuate edge 15. Legs 19, 21 are pivoted to the lugs at 18 and 21a respectively. The legs have curved ends provider with rubber sleeves 22, and are bent or offset so that when they are erected into a vertical position (Fig. 1), the two ends come together to form a loop handle by which the camera is carried. The ends 22 have a stud and socket so that they can latch together, and part of each lug 12, 13 enters into a saw-cut in the corresponding leg 19, 21, so providing rigidity to the structure. To use the camera, leg 19 is turned through 270 degrees till it abuts against the underside of base 10, and leg 21 is turned in the opposite direction to leg 19 through 180 degrees, so that the legs now occupy the position of Fig. 5. The curved end of leg 19 can now be hooked over the operator's shoulder, while the curved end of leg 21 abuts against the front of his body. Thus he has both hands free for operating the camera. A unipod, to stand on the ground, may also be provided to give additional support (Fig. 2, not shown).

[Class 69 (ii)] In a machine tool or other machine having an hydraulic feed operated by oil circulated under pressure by a pump, a thermosensitive device, sensitive to the temperature of the oil being circulated, operates as the temperature rises to pass part of the oil to a body of oil which supplies make-up oil to that being circulated, the amount of make-up being such that the temperature of the circulated oil, and therefore its viscosity, is kept substantially constant. As shown, part of the oil circulated by a pump b through a relief-valve e, pipe l, chamber h and pipes m o, back to a sump i, is passed as the 'oil temperature rises by a valve g operated by a thermosensitive device f, to a part of the sump which communicates through a restriction j with the part from which the pump draws. A jack a forms part of the hydraulic feed of a machine tool and to operate the jack a control-valve c is opened to connect the relief valve e through a metering valve to the righthand end of the jack. To reverse the jack the control valve is operated to connect the righthand side of the jack piston to a pipe n 1 leading to the sump.

    • 478,890. Arc-rupturing in switches. ELLISON, Ltd., G., and ANDERSON, J. July 29, 1936, No. 20966. [Class 38 (v)] In a circuit-breaker of the kind in which auxiliary contacts are separated after the main contacts and are associated with an electromagnetic arc-suppressing device in which the arc formed on breaking the circuit can be whirled and extinguished, the arcsuppressing device comprises an electromagnet e mounted between a pair of parallel iron plates t, two or more concentric metal rings v, w also mounted between the plates, the inner ring v being adapted to serve as, or to carry, the auxiliary fixed contact 4, and the outer ring or rings w being formed with an aperture 3 through which the auxiliary movable contact l can pass, and insulating plates u arranged between the inner faces of the iron plates t and the ends of the rings, so as to form with the latter a whirling chamber or chambers m in which the arcs set up between the auxiliary contacts are confined and extinguished. The winding of the electromagnet e is connected at one end to the fixed main contact b and at the other end to the fixed auxiliary contact 4. A wiper contact 6 associated with the movable contacts may be arranged to bear against the outer ring w until the arc is extinguished. In a modification, the electromagnet is mounted concentrically with the rings.
