    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insert for milling, which has improved cutting performance for various types of wear in high speed milling of low/medium alloy steel and in milling of hardened steel. SOLUTION: The insert is composed of a body made of cemented carbide and a coating film. The composition of the cemented carbide body is as follows; Co: 7.9 to 8.6 wt.%, Ta and Nb: 0.5 to 2.1 wt.% in the sum total of cubic carbide, the ratio of Ta wt.% to Nb wt.%: 1.0 to 12.0, the remainder: WC having the average section length from 0.4 to 0.9 μm, the binder phase of which WC includes W corresponding to S value from 0.81 to 0.95. The coating film includes a most inside layer of TiCxNyOz: wherein 0.7≤x+y+z≤1, preferably z x and z 0.1 μm, a TiCxNyOz layer: wherein 0.7≤x+y+z≤1, preferably z 0.3 and y>0.2, preferably x>0.4 and the thickness is in the range from 0.5 to 7 μm, and which is a columnar grain, and at least one layer of Al 2 O 3 : wherein the layer is composed of substantially a κ phase optionally containing a small amount of α phase, the thickness is in the range from 0.3 to 5 μm, preferably from 0.3 to 4 μm.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool insert consisting of a cemented carbide substrate and a coating. SOLUTION: The cemented carbide substrate comprises WC, cobalt of 4-7 wt.%, cubic carbide of 6-9 wt.% forming metals from groups IVb and Vb, preferably titanium, tantalum and niobium, with a binder phase enriched surface zone with a thickness of >20 μm, preferably between 21 and 50 μm. The coating comprises a first layer of Ti (C, N) adjacent to the cemented carbide substrate having a thickness of from about 3 to about 15 μm, an alumina layer adjacent to the first layer having a thickness of from about 3 to 15 μm and composed of α-Al 2 O 3 , and a further layer of carbide, nitride or carbonitride adjacent to the alumina layer having a thickness of from about 1 to 10 μm. The total thickness of the coating is less than 30 μm, preferably less than 20 μm. The insert according to the invention exhibits favorable wear resistance and edge strength when turning steel. At least one chip former is provided in at least either an upper side surface or lower side surface. At least one rounded cutting corner having cutting edges 20, 21 and 27 is formed in the area where two edge faces intersect. A bisector is determined by the cutting corner. The chip former is arranged asymmetrically relative to the bisector. The chip former has a face 17A, which is provided in the face of the upper surface. The face 17A is actually provided in one side section of the bisector and the chip former has contour faces 28 and 29 which are intersected by the bisector at least twice.
