    • A snowboard binding is provided for releasably connecting a boot to a snowboard. One embodiment of the invention includes inner and outer main bodies to receive a two-piece cleat. A second embodiment includes inner and outer hooks for hooking, and a latch for securing, a one-piece cleat. A third embodiment includes a front main body and a spring-loaded latch in a rear main body for engaging a one-piece cleat. A fourth embodiment engages a one-piece cleat with inwardly beveled, semi-circular inner and outer main bodies. A fifth embodiment engages a one-piece cleat with a front main body and a latch, fixedly mounted upon an axle, within a rear main body. The latch is biased toward the engaged position by a spring. In a sixth embodiment of the invention, a one-piece cleat is engaged with a front main body and two rear spring biased latches. In a seventh embodiment, among other things, the cleat is formed in two pieces.

    • A binding system is provided that is effective for use on recreational device, such as a snowboard, and that is adapted to mate to, or that includes, a boot or other footwear worn by the user. In general, the binding system includes a base plate for support a rider's foot, and a connecting element for mating the base plate to an elongate board, e.g., a snowboard. The connecting element is effective to mate the base plate to a snowboard about a fixed central axis and to allow pivotal movement of the base plate about the central axis with respect to the snowboard. The binding system can also include at least one compression member mated to the base plate and/or to a snowboard. The compression member(s) are effective to compress between the base plate and the snowboard in response to a force applied to at least one of the base plate and the snowboard. The binding system is particularly advantageous in that the compression members provide enhanced biomechanical operation, absorbing chatter and shock, and increasing mobility. Moreover, there is no relative motion between the base plate and the boot, so the rider's ability to control the snowboard is not adversely affected.

    • A spacer for a snowboard that is compatible with several bindings and snowboards, and that absorbs and dampens shocks and vibrations as they occur while riding a snowboard. The spacer provides a simplified mounting mechanism to connect different bindings with a snowboard without negative loads and forces influencing the snowboard. The spacer has at least one central part and at least one lateral part, which includes a dual density material construction for shock absorption and dampening. The central part has a fixing device to provide a direct or indirect mechanical connection between a binding and a snowboard. The fixing device is preferably connectable with different binding types available on the market. The at least one lateral part is preferably affixed to the central part and serves to transfer load between one of a tip or a heel of a snowboard boot and a snowboard.
