    • A safety gate (10) comprises an isolation gate (100) having a rail (28) extending the width of an opening in a perimeter handrail, and side rails (14a, 14b and 16a, 16b) extending along opposite sides of a pallet loading area. The isolation gate prevents access to the area when lowered. A perimeter gate (200) has a frame (28) installed between two posts (22a, 22b). One end of a rope (R) attaches to this frame and the other end attaches to side rails on the sides of the isolation gate. When the perimeter gate is lowered to protect workers on the platform, the isolation gate is raised. When a pallet is to be placed on the platform, lowering the isolation gate raises the perimeter gate. The lowered isolation gate protects workers from falling off the platform. When the pallet is in place, the perimeter gate is lowered back down.

    • The present invention comprises a frame assembly which may be readily set up at the edge of a mezzanine floor to provide a safety gate thereat. The assembly has a pair of side walls connected by a horizontally disposed overhead support. A front gate and a rear gate assembly are upwardly and downwardly movable, opposed to one anothers motion, so as to provide a blocking of the edge of the mezzanine floor, and to also define an enlarged work area for fork lift trucks or shipping machinery within that area while keeping it safe from accidents.

    • A safety apparatus which includes a gate positioned adjacent the free edge of a loading dock and swingable between a substantially horizontal position wherein it is adapted to extend across the rear of a truck, and a vertical position permitting access between the dock and the truck. In a preferred embodiment, the swinging movement of the gate is controlled by an electrical switch mounted on a wheel chock located within the truck parking area. When a truck is positioned adjacent the dock, the chock is wedged in front of the truck tire. This causes activation of the switch so that a motor is energized to cause the gate to be swung upwardly into an approximate vertical position. Whenever the switch is released, as due to removal of the chock from engagement with the tire, then the motor is automatically reversely energized to swing the gate into its lowered horizontal position.
