Diese Aufgabe wird durch folgende Verfahrensschritte aufweist: - aktives Ansteuern eines schaltbaren Schaltventils (1) durch ein binäres Steuersignal (5), wobei die Ansteuerung in Abhängigkeit einer gewünschten Kühlleistung erfolgt; - Betätigen eines Schaltelements (16) des Schaltventils in Abhängigkeit des Steuersignals (5), wobei das Schaltelement (16) in Abhängigkeit des Steuersignals (5) von einer geschlossenen Stellung in eine geöffnete Stellung oder vice versa gebracht wird, und der Durchfluss eines Kühlmediums (21) durch das Schaltventil (1) bei einer geöffneten Stellung des Schaltelements (16) geöffnet und bei einer geschlossenen Stellung des Schaltelements (16) geschlossen ist; anschließend - intermittierendes Ausbringen des Kühlmediums (21) über eine Kühldüse (2) auf den Strang (3).
