    • A structure for stabilizing the active region of the magnetic sensor comprises a hard ferromagnetic element adjacent to a biasing multilayer element placed on either side of the active region of the magnetic sensor. The biasing multilayer element includes soft ferromagnetic and anti-ferromagnetic layers such that the biasing strength applied to the active region of the magnetic sensor is tuneable by adjusting the length of the soft ferromagnetic layer or layers as well as the insertion of spacer layers between the soft ferromagnetic materials and the anti-ferromagnetic layers. The inventive structure provides longitudinal bias to the active region with improved domain control, signal amplitude and side-reading properties.

    • A disk drive write head having in consecutive layers a bottom pole, a write gap layer, a first insulation layer, a coil, a second insulation layer having an insulation layer boundary, and a top pole on the second insulation layer. The top pole includes a main body portion and a nose portion and has a flare line at the location where the nose portion expands to become the main body portion. The top pole further includes a curved contour portion having a contour boundary, a tip which terminates in an air bearing surface, and a flat portion on the top surface of the nose extending between the tip and the contour boundary. The insulation layer boundary is recessed from the air bearing surface such that the top pole contour boundary lies substantially close to the flare line, thus producing a top pole top surface which is substantially flat.

    • The present invention provides a biaxially textured laminate article having a polycrystalline biaxially textured metallic substrate with an electrically conductive oxide layer epitaxially deposited thereon and methods for producing same. In one embodiment a biaxially texture Ni substrate has a layer of LaNiO3 deposited thereon. An initial layer of electrically conductive oxide buffer is epitaxially deposited using a sputtering technique using a sputtering gas which is an inert or forming gas. A subsequent layer of an electrically conductive oxide layer is then epitaxially deposited onto the initial layer using a sputtering gas comprising oxygen. The present invention will enable the formation of biaxially textured devices which include HTS wires and interconnects, large area or long length ferromagnetic and/or ferroelectric memory devices, large area or long length, flexible light emitting semiconductors, ferroelectric tapes, and electrodes.

    • An insect trap (100) includes an entrapment chamber (110) with an entry structure (140) over one open end. The entry structure includes (i) a lid (142) with a central aperture (144) and one or more peripheral apertures (146); (ii) a tapered guide (150) on one side of the lid, and (iii) a port fixture (160) that extends through the central aperture and engages the tapered guide. The port fixture includes one or more tubular ports (168) that extend through the peripheral apertures, and one or more cartridges (170) that are removably inserted into the tubular ports. The cartridges contain attractant that is exposed to the interior of the attractant chamber when the trap is assembled. The cartridges may be replaced to replenish or replace attractant without removing the entry structure.
