    • A separator that utilizes an arcuate inlet manifold (14) and an arcuate baffle (16) to increase the rate of separation for a mix of materials having different specific gravities. The separator includes an arcuate baffle (16) that defines a separation chamber (32) and an arcuate pipe (58) through which a mixture of materials having specific gravities is carried into the chamber (32). The mixture is discharged into the separation chamber (32) against the baffle (16) through a series of openings (60) disposed along the perimeter of the pipe (58). The baffle (16), pipe (58) and openings (60) are configured relative to one another such that mixture is discharged against the baffle (16) at an oblique angle. In preferred versions of the invention, mixture is discharged slanting up, slanting to the side or slanting up and to the side against the baffle (16) at an angle of 18 DEG to 24 DEG (most preferably at about 22 DEG ).

    • A portable water recycler (10) for cleaning and recycling water used in a produce washing system or another similar system. The portable water recycler (10) is most particularly advantageous in the recycling of water used in a potato washing system. The portable water recycler (10) includes a conveyor filter (200) which removes and conveys debris generally laterally while allowing water to pass generally vertically through a funnel (400) and into a reclaiming thank (100). The reclaiming tank (100) has a sloped floor and a bottom outlet. Dirty water is discharged from the bottom outlet and pumped through at least one centrifugal separator (300) for further separation of particulate material from the water.

    • This invention relates to a method of, and apparatus for, separating contaminates from a base liquid and whereby the contaminated base liquid is passed through a pretreatment vessel before being passed to a conventional separator. In one described embodiment, the pretreatment vessel (11) is of generally cylindrical form arranged with its axis substantially vertical, base liquid to be de-contaminated is supplied into the mid-height regions of the vessel through a tangential device (16) to cause circulating flows within the vessel (11), and the vessel (11) includes an outlet (13a) in its top regions (13) for the release of light contaminates, an outlet (12a) in its lower regions for the release of heavy contaminates, and an outlet duct (30) in its mid-region, spaced from the inlet for releasing partially contaminated liquid from the vessel (11), for release into a conventional separator (26). Preferably the method includes the steps of introducing a first treatment material to the base liquid before, or as, the base liquid enters the vessel (11) and adding a second treatment material into the partially decontaminated base liquid to be directed to the conventional separator (26).
